Licorice and chai nose flecked with sparkling candies ginger and an array of mints. Medium heavy mouthfeel lifted by ethereal spices flaunts cardamom, clove, allspice, nutmeg and citrus oils, dark sugar and coffee notes framed by oak and buried vanilla. Rich and complex and focused with deft straddle of bitter and sweet, creamy and dry. Chocolate assumes a caramel droplet, while honey comes to mind with floral notes. Ribbons of Turkish coffee, and plenty of oak and char compete for the remainder. Big, sinewy, chewy and earthy, just wrapped in sumptuous sweets. Awesome! .

Huge pineapple nose of fresh-cut ripe fruit! Grapefruit tattoo, but little else. General lemon creaminess; a memo from mandarin. Pineapple rum entry with caramel and vanilla, baked apple, brandy-pear, classy touch of black pepper, allspice, ginseng, soft ginger slices, dried orange peel, anise, and lime. Heady and thick, cut, wiry, and sinewy, but overall, a calculated, choreographed, disciplined display of restrained power, lithe and evocative, with a smooth finish.

Espresso and baker’s chocolate nose boasts licorice and chicory, campfire notes and vanilla. Palate shows none of the sweet elements of the nose initially. Instead, pipe tobacco and unsweetened bitter chocolate, the chicory and burnt toast prevail; a burnt tips taste lingering. Apricot-pineapple with a sweet kerosene note. Bananas and Honeycomb cereal. Lime pith and soursop secondary smells. Plantains dried at medium ripeness, lemon pith, and tangerine threads on the palate. Connecticut tobacco leaf. Chalky lemon. There is such an interesting dichotomy between the malt caramel notes initially, and the overwhelming, cancelling pithy citrus, which obnubilates the former. Kumquat and starfruit combine on the finish with lemon tart candy and grapefruit reduction. .

Waited a bit to get spooky with this one! Boo! Orange sourdough, caramel glass, cinnamon-chiles, cardamom, and cedar with dark brown sugar, dates and molasses. Fly agaric lacing does the micro polka on the glass as mystic swirls of smoke trace spirals from the cream colored top to the surface skim. Cinnamon leads the gourd charge, sweet potato follows, pepper and black raisin buttress those initials, while darkened caramel fills the void of clove, burnt candy and BBQ blood orange before swisher cherry sweetness.

Incredible entry of creamy banana and guava, lemon zest, with tiny glimpses of strawberry, cherry and raspberries, a dragonfruit texture, lemongrass sorbet, tangerine pulp, yellow mango, and finally miracle fruit transmogrification to balance the red and white with the vestiges of sweet ginger, tartaric biscuit, and coconut oil. Grapefruit-clementine nose of carrot sweetness and cut yellow beet teases out almond candy, persimmon, kiwi and green banana. Palate is less tropical, with icy citrus and metallic energy, but texturally creamy; candied sage, Indian gum, Mexican wedding cookie flashbacks, white grapefruit, gooseberry, lime pith and white pomegranate seed nodules. Hints at white pepper in orange pith. I like it. Less “juicy” than suggested, but high quality offering worth the rotation. Something to shake a stick at!
