Double Matured Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey 1979

Shakedown 1979! Great Lagavulin here. More nuanced and polished and somewhat less peaty than the 16 YO standard. — 3 months ago

Way too much peat for my taste but if you are into that you’ll love this one. — 17 days ago

Yes I guess you can call peat an acquired taste. But in this spectrum lagavulin is on the low scale.

Unpeated?! Ach! Give us more of a description, laddie. What sort of whiskey is an Isla whiskey without the peat?

Alas, the first and only unpeated Islay I’ve had, but remarkable at that. Bananas Foster and salted butterscotch, intense roasted vanilla and rich nutty wood in a big, round deep and smooth as silk frame all of which lingered for minutes after each sip.

This one really grew on me after a few sips. Nice smokiness to it. Lingered on the palate. Nicely done. — a month ago

Triple Wood Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Nose of briny, smokey peat that's on the medicinal side (burnt rubber). Walnut, toffee, black pepper, and perhaps a hint of raisin.

Rich, intense palate of malt, toffee, roasted almond, sea shell, and the classic medicinal, smokey Laphroaig finish. Mixed in the peaty finish is a hint of bacon, plum, and pepper.

Very much Laphroaig but more rounded and with more rich, nutty notes than the 10. Not that fruity which I would expect from the sherry finish, but still delicious.
