2017 vintage. Satellite Wines is the négociant company started by enfant terrible Olivier Techer, owner of Pomerol estate Château Gombaude Guillot and the brains behind "Pom'n Roll", shaking up the region. The idea is to highlight lesser-known parts of Bordeaux, like this serious organically farmed Côtes de Bordeaux. Not sure if this is a pure Merlot or a blend, but it is undoubtedly a very good wine. Concentrated fruit, a serious tannic structure, balanced acidity and good length. The label states "Bordeaux à boire", but actually this has a very classic ageworthy feel about it, giving many Saint-Emilions a run for their money. Should be perfect in 2 years time, but highly enjoyable now. Very good value at 15 euro. Even better the next day. Abv. 13,5%. — 4 years ago
A favourite of mine. Golden, light but with a subtle grapefruit taste. Not at the more "hoppy" end of the beer market, and this one sits nicely between the more malted, lightly hopped ales and those of the US style IPA type beers.
Goes very well with good old British chips and a jumbo sausage sans batter. — 3 years ago
Oh Tina if you really loved me, you’d let me eat your brains! — 3 years ago
There’s been a wave of hip pet nats taking form as nothing more than fermented fruit juice in a clear bottle (Furlani for example). The Lunaria “bio budget” Pet Nat could easily have been that, but it’s not. It’s a restrained bone dry yeasty tart grapefruit peach sour tangerine mix. It’s enough to think about - it won’t blow your brains, but neither your wallet. — 5 years ago
Cider-esque haziness sports spongy fluff with bouncy bubbles, sheet lacing which tears to brains folds, or nut interiors. Lemon-lime and grapefruit gummies explode dangly. Apricots, tangerines, lemongrass and ginger nose. Briny grapefruit with iodized aspects, and shimmery mineral plating. Sweetness imperceptible; glistening acid trails. Clementine peel bite.

As goth in residence I should alert you that aside from inevitable pheromones it is intellectual wine acumen that revs my motor. Ipso facto if brains turn you on, this Bandol will seduce you with its thoughtful rigor—it has its balance and complexity fine-tuned. Then pure sensual attributes (silky rhubarb/peach Melba joy/is that a bay leaf? And omg perhaps even a hint of allspice) are all guest speakers at the symposium. This wine has deep thoughts but is perky-goth enough to dance til at least 3am. Daylight may be too much though. — 3 years ago
Vintage 2015 / Exploring the wines from #Corsica. This reserve Bellucenti is named after Saint Lucia with ‘the most beautiful eyes in the world’. Made from local curiosity grape #nielluccio and #syrah. Dark colour. A warm and serious smell, hint of vannila, brushwood, leather and morello cherries. Great p/q. Smooth taste. Not complex. Good acidity. The cuvees name made me think of Monica Belluci (strange how brains work 😁). The wine makes me happy. — 6 years ago

This is just a really really good wine. Outstanding even. Deep dark purple in the glass with a wide brim. Violets and white flower aromas on the nose initially with a ton of powerhouse red and black fruits following closely behind. Dried herbs and smoke accompanying. Smoked tobacco and underbrush. There’s a bit of oak but it’s hiding playfully in the background.
70/30 Cabernet Sauvignon/Syrah from the Santa Cruz Mountains. Definitely a major step above other Cali blends, this has brains and beauty. Big and full bodied. Fun and full of character with silky tannins. The palate is electric with a continuation of those dark fruits along with milk chocolate and more herbs. A long finish with black pepper makes you instantly pour another glass and that’s a bit of a shame because if you show patience, this wine will reward you. — 2 years ago
