Aromas of citrus fruit, white flowers, orchard fruit and a slight hint of wet stones. Flavors of lime, green apples/pears, unripe peach and lemon curd. Slight note of slate on the long and very crisp finish. Mouth watering acidity. Bright, energetic and fresh. Solid wine from a consistent quality producer. Thanks for sharing, John P! — 3 days ago
Bright garnet/purple color. Aromas of ripe black fruit, violets and sweet cocoa. Flavors of crushed blackberry, stone dust and a touch of black pepper spice. Medium-plus slightly tart finish and elevated acidity. No sign of oak aging. Fresh tasting but not overly fruit forward. Quite young and interesting. Chill-able Summer Red. Another solid vintage of Ziereisen’s Entry Level Baden Spatburgunder. Dark garnet color with a ruby core. Fragrant aromas of red cherry/berry fruit, forest floor and a hint of smoke. Flavors of sour cherry, unripe strawberry and pomegranate fruit with additional hints of dried herbs, savory spices and minerals. Long lasting earthy finish and extremely smooth tannins. Medium bodied with a very smooth texture and a bit of tension. Rustic but quite elegant at the same time. Excellent quality for a reasonable price. — 11 days ago
Per the winery, this South African Rose’ is a blend of Mourvèdre (50%), Syrah (30%) and Grenache (20%) and named after the owner’s English bulldog. Light pink/salmon color. Aromas of red berries, citrus fruit and sea spray. Flavors of strawberry, rhubarb, lemon zest with a bit of mineral on the medium-plus length finish. Bright acidity, but lacking a bit of texture. Very fruit forward. More than reasonable. — 2 days ago
Produced with fruit from younger vines. Dark ruby color. Aromas of wood smoke, forest floor and subtle dark berry notes. Flavors of tobacco, blackberries, black raspberry/cherry, pepper spice and roasted meat. Hints of dried herbs on the medium-plus finish. Medium tannins and acidity. Extremely savory and earthy. Better with food. Probably should look to try the Castagno (Old Vines) version of this wine down the road. — 4 days ago
Another outstanding vintage of this Sardinian beauty. 100% Cannonau (Grenache). Medium ruby color with garnet highlights. Aromas of sour berry fruit, wet soil, graphite and violets. Flavors of black cherries, baker’s chocolate and dark plums. Medium-plus and slightly bitter finish. Well balanced and savory. Plentiful acidity and well integrated (but slightly chewy) tannins. A bit of a rustic structure but still quite refined. — 10 days ago
My first Japanese Red! Blend of Merlot and Muscat Bailey A (A Red Japanese hybrid grape). Interesting ruby color with garnet and purple highlights and a slight brick rim. Aromas of red and black fruit and purple flowers. Flavors of red/black cherries, raspberries, strawberries, cola, and black licorice. Slight hint of vanilla on the medium finish. Low (but pleasant) acidity and light on tannins and structure. Well polished texture and quite delicate. A light bodied and chill-able refreshing red. Not overly complex. I found myself continuously reaching for the bottle. Very unique. Thank you so much for sharing this wine, John P! — 3 days ago
