Zin sounded right on this cool, rainy day. Totally rewriting my review after an hour. A big whiff of sour fruit (not bad). Thinner mouthfeel than i expected. The taste is dried fruits: prune, dates, apricot. Chocolate, licorice, sweet things. There in an odd charred element, a bit like pipe tobacco but burned. Not terribly off putting, but I do think it's getting tired. 11 years! @Doug Powers That's like senior citizen old!

This is delicious! Not made to age for the long haul, but it has a few years in it. Great cherry and raspberry flavors, smooth tannins. Just yummy, and I am inclined to like it better than the Muga I had earlier 😊

@Dave I think Zin and many other wines (looking at you too Southern Rhone reds) lose some balance, complexity, and food-flexibility at that level and beyond, frequently in the pursuit of higher scores from quick-sipping critics who need to be “wowed” in 15 seconds or less.

It's Blanton's, proofed up to 103. Being a single barrel, Blanton's is consistently good but not consistently great. This bottle is well above average. It smells and tastes like something from the Van Winkle bourbon lineup. Dark cherry, apricot, leather, cigar box. Much more pleasing than last years bottle. I thought the Gold used to be in a skinnier 700ml bottle, but this is 750ml. Maybe I'm losing it 🤔

Always like seeing the bourbons you are drinking. Haven’t had many golds to remember the size. How’s it compare to the cask strength?

Hey Norman! Similar to the cask strength, just not quite as hairy. I think my bottle of cask strength is proofed at 114. I usually put droplets of Kentucky limestone water in it to proof it back down to regular Blanton's 😁
