Active, perfect yellow amber pushing orange hard. Big bubbled beige-yellow head that dropped expectedly quick, with so much action. Petri-dish lacing with cytoplasm graffiti. Huge pineapple nose of fresh-cut ripe fruit! Grapefruit tattoo, but little else. General lemon creaminess; a memo from mandarin. Pineapple rum entry with caramel and vanilla, baked apple, brandy-pear, classy touch of black pepper, allspice, ginseng, soft ginger slices, dried orange peel, anise, and lime. Heady and thick, cut, wiry, and sinewy, but overall, a calculated, choreographed, disciplined display of restrained power, lithe and evocative, with a smooth finish.

Straw with gold leaf glints. Compelling nose of acorn squash, zucchini blossom, cooling lemon zest, green apple, lime, drawn, clarified butter, corn flakes, tiny sprinkles of dried pineapple, and banana leaf aromas. Soft lemon pith and wet peel, green orchid stem, tangy, deconstructed lime from zest to oil and pith, lemon grass, and fresh cut lemon somehow echoing green apple tart bursts; lean and sexy with myriad edible flowers, lavender, squash blossom, nasturtiums, dandelion, and others, small and subtle. Overall a great Chardonnay with elegance and calculated beauty reminiscent of a Japanese garden, or a small, manicured French palatial jardin. .

This is a very tasty Rosé from Napa. Showing raspberries, strawberries, limes, grapefruits, bitter herbs, earth, light vegetables, green apples and spices.
Medium bodied with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel.
Good by itself or with food. Tangy and spicy. Interesting and rich.
I enjoyed it better when it was not too cold, and paired it with Italian prosciutto.

Want to eat buttery popcorn without the calories? That's what I did today. Skinny Girl popcorn (no butter), paired with a buttery Napa Chardonnay.
This Napa Chardonnay is delicious. Showing citrus, vanilla, spices, cedar, lemons, yellow apples, pears, pineapples, bananas and black pepper.
Full bodied and bold with a buttery mouthfeel.
Not my usual style, but this works perfectly with the popcorn.

Very pleased that this 2009 vintage tasted better than the disappointing 2010 vintage I had a few months ago. Muscular and interesting, with enough fruit, tannin and alcohol remaining after 11 years to demonstrate its Central Coast origins. Enjoyed this with a pared down Thanksgiving dinner of Julia Child’s Caneton aux Cerises instead of turkey. A calculated risk, and worth it. — 4 years ago
Calculated Risk Winery Atlas Peak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, California
Time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a delicious one from Napa Valley.
Inky in color with a short purplish rim.
Fruity nose of blackberries, blackcurrants, cedar, black plums, cooked cherries, vanilla, licorice, spices, light herbs, tobacco, dark coffee, chocolates and black pepper.
Full-bodied, big and bold, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, leather, earth, vanilla, licorice, vegetables, spices, chocolates, wet leaves, tobacco, diet cola and peppercorn.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is very tasty Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Big bold and extracted.
Still young and needs another five years in the bottle to mature. Will be better in the next 5 to 15 years.
Showing nice complexity with a great mouthfeel. Needs time to open up and bring out the tannins. I let it open up for 2 hours. Gets earthier after 2 hours of airtime.
Very unique and interesting. Not what I expected from a Napa Cabernet. Would love to try it again in 5 years. Will probably be a 94-5 point wine.
Good by itself or with food. I paired it with cheeses and crackers.
