It is Friday night and what better way to celebrate the start of the weekend then with a Bordeaux. I can't think of one. This 2012 Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a fine example of what I have come to love about Bordeaux. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.
The nose has that rich black fruit of black plum, black cherry, blueberry, black currant, a touch of strawberry, violet, black pepper, sweet tobacco leaf, graphite and some nice soil.
Upon entry onto the palate there is a smooth creamy sweetness, black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, tobacco, spice, graphite and a rich earthy soil.
The wine is full has a full body mouth feel, a medium + fresh acidity with medium + round mouth coating tannins that transitions right into a long lasting finish. My kind of Bordeaux setting up a start to an expected beautiful weekend. Please enjoy yourselves this weekend and be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 5 days ago
The night after Thanksgiving I am still giving thanks to family and friends for the great gifts they bring me. Tonight I have opened the 2015 Bernard Baudry Chinon Les Granges.
On the nose there is roasted red pepper, raspberry sauce, ripe strawberries, some matchbox, herbal notes and a bit of soil background.
On the palate the green bell pepper is ever present, sour cherry, tart raspberry, under ripe plum, an herbal note and crushed gravel.
This wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity, medium smooth tannin that goes into the medium to long tingly finish. Continue having a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 19 days ago
On Friday I had the pleasure of enjoying the 2014 Tenuta dell' Ornellia "Ornellaia" Bolgheri. 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 20% Petit Verdot and 14% Cabernet Franc. This is the second Ornellaia I have had the pleasure of tasting. The first was the 2013 which was smoother and a bit more in tune yet both very smooth and enjoyable.
The nose of the 2014 has notes of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, lilac, clove, iron, oak and nice earthiness.
On the palate was black cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, sage, leather, graphite and smoky oak.
This wine is medium in body, medium + acidity, medium + smooth tannins that leads to a long fruity finish. An enjoyable wine yet a bit young that has at least 20 years to go. Enjoy your weekend and be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — a month ago
It is Sunday evening and the first wine we have opened is the 2012 Hall Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This was a gift from one of my life long friends that is here in Palm Springs.
The nose has notes of black fruit, black cherry, blackberry, cassis, oak and a mineral note although a bit on the weak side.
On the palate the black fruit is prominent with black cherry, blackberry, some licorice, vanilla, smoky oak and earth notes.
The wine is medium to full bodied with medium acidity, medium smooth tannins, a very drinkable wine right now.
The weekend is at an end and the workweek is upon us. Have a great week and please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷 — a month ago
Tonight I wanted to honor Patricia Green with opening her 2015 Patricia Green Cellars Lia's Vineyard Pinot Noir. I purchased this wine about a week before her passing. So Patricia this is for you, may you rest in peace and may your winemaking live on forever.
The nose has beautifully aromatic red fruit that makes my mouth water wanting to get into the tasting. There is cherry, strawberry, red raspberry, pomegranate, clove, eucalyptus and nice earth.
On the palate the nose translates over with cherry, red raspberry, cranberry, clove, cola and a dry earthiness.
The wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity and medium to + smooth tannins, well integrated and balanced. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and be safe. Here's to you Patricia Green, Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 11 days ago
Tonight's Friday night wine is the 2014 Casa Silva Carménère Cuvée Colchagua.
The nose has good red fruit of strawberry, red raspberry, sweet cherry, spice, green peppercorn, green bell pepper, herbaceous and minerality.
On the palate I am able to tell there is tart raspberry, tart plum, green bell pepper which it seems this wine maker seems to really love as well do I, vanilla, a bit of oak, herbaceousness, a minerality and a dusty soil note.
The wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity, medium soft tannin that leads to a medium + finish. A nice wine that can be enjoyed now or later. Have a great weekend and be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — a month ago
Tonight I am drinking the 2015 Domaine De La Bergerie La Cerisaie Yves Guégniard Anjou Cabernet Franc.
The nose is a bit tight yet after a bit of swirling and sitting it decides to show itself. There are notes of raspberry, plum, green bell pepper, asparagus, violet and wet gravel.
On the palate the green bell pepper comes out in spades with tart raspberry, new plum, tart cherry, spice and dusty soil.
The wine is medium in body with medium acidity, medium + grippy tannins that has a medium to long finish. Continue the enjoyable weekend and please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷 — a month ago
Well, here it is the first weekend December and a finish to another year is upon us. I have opened the 2010 Château Berliquet to start the last month of the year off right. The blend to this Right Bank Bordeaux is 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
On the nose there is luscious black fruit, black cherry, sweet black plum, blackberry, black currant, herbal notes, clove and sweet silky chocolate.
The palate reveals the same luscious black fruit, black cherry, blackberry, black currant, black plum, green bell pepper, clove and a soft minerality.
This wine is well balanced and well structured with medium to full bodied with fine medium + acidity, medium + smooth firm drying tannin and the finish is long with continued dark fruit to the end. Have a great weekend and a safe and to 2017. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 12 days ago
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. This afternoon we open the 2012 Miner The Oracle Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend. 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot, 3% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. Still at this young age needs some time to open up.
On the nose there is good black fruit, black cherry, raspberry, black currant, eucalyptus, mint, cocoa and a bit of minerality.
On the palate, the black fruit comes through with notes of black raspberry, black cherry, black currant, eucalyptus, dark rich soil and a good mineral play.
The wine is medium bodied, medium to + acidity, medium + rounded tannins with a medium to long finish. A nice well blended wine that has 5-10 years to go in bottle. I hope everyone got enough to eat and enjoyed the day with loved ones. Please continue your weekend enjoying family and be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 20 days ago
The special second wine of the evening this Sunday night we have opened the 2012 Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou. A special weekend with life long friends deserves a special wine.
The aromas are of big dark fruit, black cherry, black raspberry, blueberry, black currant, licorice, graphite and a good soil component.
On the palate are excellent notes of black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, green bell pepper, black pepper, graphite, a bit of oak, florals and a nice rich soil note.
This wine is medium to full bodied with medium + acidity, medium + well rounded tannins that leads to a lengthy finish that is pleasing all the way through. An enjoyable wine now or will be even better in 10-15 years. Have a great week and please stay safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — a month ago
