Château Montbrun

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1983

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a nice surprise from Margaux, Bordeaux.

Dark brown in color with a wide brick rim.

Great complexity on the nose with blueberries, black currants, potpourri, raspberries, earth, wood, spices, peppercorn, green vegetables, vinaigrette, black tea, mashrooms, forest floor, smoke, tobacco leaf, spices and graphite.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with blueberries, dried fruits, wood, cloves, forest floor, tobacco leaf, spices, black pepper, earth, black tea, vinaigrette, mushrooms, wet leaves, herbs and graphite.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

What a great experience this is. This 36 Year old, Cabernet based Bordeaux, is drinking very nicely now. Showing great complexity on both the nose and palate, with a soft mouthfeel. Resembles a 40 year old Barolo.

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up. Took 90 minutes to peak.

Not from a great vintage, but it is still holding great.

I paired it with good friends, and a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

I can't say what the alcohol level is, but it feels like 12.5%

The Paint of Moonlight Pelkan Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

It’s time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a tasty one from Knights Valley, California.

Deep purple in color (very dark) with a short purple rim.

On the nose blueberries, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, light wood, earth, barnyard, light vegetables and black pepper.

Full bodied and smooth with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with cherries, strawberries, red currants, blueberries, oak, light vanilla, spices, alcohol, peppercorn and dark coffee.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a very enjoyable Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County. Showing nice complexity and mouthfeel.

This Single Vineyard is not fully balanced yet, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. I let it open for 3 hours, and it feels like it needs more time. Mid palate is still very tangy. Will be better in a few years.

Good by itself or with food. Tangy and spicy. I paired it with cheeses and light appetizers.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in New French oak barrels for 22 months.

14.9% alcohol by volume.

Feels much older than its age, although not showing it on the color.

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up and removes some of the stinky nose.

This 5 year old from the great 13 vintage, is drinking very nicely now, and will get better in the next 5 to 15 years. I had the 2012 when it was a 3 year old. What a big difference time makes.
