A great bottle. Intense and deep fruit. Plum and iodine with a hint of leather and blood. Such a consistent wine and many years ahead — 9 days ago

Domaine Tempier

Bandol Rosé Blend 2019

Glowing salmon rose gold. Smells like sour peachy-O's and blood orange. Still very full of life, equal parts cream and acid, fruity with herbs on the periphery.

Consistently wonderfully predictable.

Gemtree Vineyards

Dragon's Blood Shiraz 2020

Deep ruby color; black cherries, oak, and blackberry jam on the nose; high acidity; high tannins; tastes like blackberry sauce, sweet tabacco, sassafras(I think), and a hint of camphor with a long fruity finish. It has a little bit of a children's cough medicine flavor at the end. It's not enough to be bad. I really like this wine, but it's enough to knock my rating down a point. — 2 years ago

Absolutely phenomenal. Perfectly aged. Not sure if it will ever really decline but about as good as it gets today. Love me some cheval! 78-82s are showing really really well. Thanks @Lee Lightfoot

Brut Rosé Champagne Chardonnay Blend

It’s 1/2 bottle n/v Billecart evening.

This is a more appropriate color of rose for the Rosé color of this champagne.

My go to n/v Rosé Champange for a number of reasons…quality & 1/2 bottle availability are right up there.

Blood orange, black cherries, Rainer cherries, lean strawberries, pomegranate juice, hints of raw rhubarb, grainy, grippy, sharp chalkiness, crunchy volcanics, limestone, sea fossils, baguette crust, deep white spice, orange lilies, peach roses, excellent, lively acidity with a rich, well balanced smart finish that starts clean, ripe fruits falling onto perfect minerality.

Ridge Vineyards

Lytton Springs Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel Blend 2022

Day 1 of this year's Smallmouth Smackdown has begun. After 7 hours on the boat, and a dozen bass, it's time to crack into some libations (had a few PBR's on the boat).
This is a lush Zin. Concentrated fruit, but savory and chewy. Blackberry, blood orange, cigar box, and enough structure to age much longer. This is my 3rd Ridge Zin, and I'd have to say I still favor the Pagani Ranch.

@Dave, bravo my man!! The other advice you received is also great!! I think Pagani vs. Lytton Springs vs. Geyserville vs. any other Ridge Zin is often vintage, since they’re all blends!! (In fact, Geyserville never (mostly?) never says Zinfandel on the label since it very rarely (never?) is at least 75% Zinfandel, which is the CA requirement for varietal name on the label.

First bottle of a case, curious how this is developing.

Typical syrah notes pour out of the decanter. The palate shows an obviously young wine but it is drinking already very well. Red and Puple fruit, polished tannins. Blood, iron stones.

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend

Apropos for Halloween!!! A dark blood crimson color. Nose — fills the senses with blackberry-cassis fruit, classic Bordeaux aged perfume and earthy notes followed by a slight barnyard funk, chard cedar wood and toasted vanilla. Taste - red cherry plum and cedar with pepper spices, and a jammy graphite mineral dry long finish. A medium bodied wine with the tannins still present giving it more years to age and surprising new flavors that can develop. Happy Halloween 🎃 ! Luv the label!!! — 5 years ago

Enderle & Moll

Baden Spätburgunder Rosé 2018

Words escape me...Notes later, best E&M Rosé to date!

Nose has ripe cranberry, mashed raspberry, blood orange flesh, mashed strawberry, recently cut grass, oak bark and a pint of cherries.

Palate has tart cherry, strawberry, over-ripe raspberry, fresh Clementine peel, (minor) baking spice, cold plum with a long finish. Weighty yet finessed

I can't believe I'm stating this, but I think this wine exceeds the 2017 version, which I thought was bonkers, this is better!

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Hermitage Syrah 1990

And then this happened. Oh my days! Opened prior to dinner and enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 1990 pours a deep garnet color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of powerful ripe and desiccated brambles, dried purple flowers, beef blood, leather and mushrooms and earth. On the palate, the wine is dry and structure is still going strong with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, to quote “Squints”, the finish goes on, FOR-EV-ER. A monument. Drink now through 2040. — 4 months ago

Chaillot Cornas Syrah 2012

Opened for a buddy’s birthday, alongside a 2005 Tatty Comtes, 2015 Cristal, 2018 Realm Falstaff and 2023 Kobayashi M/R.

I still remember my first Allemand seven years ago and how it immediately reeled me in and every bottle since has been the exact same. The rusticity and feral nature of Cornas is why for me, as a Syrah fanboy, it’s the best and most pure region for this wonderful grape.

Removed cork about an hour before pouring. Initial notes of olive, black pepper spice and herbs, some smoked meat and a brief blood-orange citrus aromatic. Deep red/black in the glass. There’s a layer of brett (low level, adds to the intrigue, doesn’t detract) and lavender bouquet before peppered strip, herbs, raspberries and blackberries, and a sanguine tang hit the palate. Not sure of whole cluster use here but seems there’s a little bit (which I love). Wild but civilized. Medium-plus bodied with beautiful acidity and plenty of tannin for this to cruise years. On the early side, but these are so hard to resist in every phase.

I wish I could drink this every day. I need to find a wine of similar style at a better price point.

Domaine des Tours

Réserve Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Red Rhone Blend 2016

Effusive, soulful, brimming with delicious fruit and goût de terroir to keep you engaged for hours. Ripe black raspberry, stewed red plum, blood orange, juniper, white pepper, cinnamon, nori, menthol, cool/damp earth, black tea, potpourri, lavender pastilles. This well seated, its fruit and structure are generous where they need to be and restrained at just the right point, certainly expressing the 2016 vintage perfectly right now. Such a great compliment with paella. — 4 years ago

Although this is still a young wine, I am glad to say that after atleast half-a-dozen recent disappointments with wines from @SaintJoseph this one is both exciting and of great quality.
