@Delectable Wine this is Les Avats
A champagne from a vintage that is, shall we say, not particularly lauded. Nevertheless, I've had some fantastic experiences with 2011 Champagnes, and this one might be the best of the bunch. This is probably better than the 2011 Pierre Peters Chetillons. From a single parcel <<Les Avats>> in Avize, this is, I believe, a blanc de blanc even though it isn't listed as such. There is no disgorgement information on the bottle. Notes from 4 hours open.
The nose is a heavenly mixture of soft lime and meyer lemon, custard, some oxidative nutty notes. On the palate, the acidity is on point, the mousse is soft and carries the flavors so well, there is more lemon, a touch of rich oxidative character with a slight coffee tinge, but then, all of a sudden, it lightens up in the palate, almost like cotton candy dissolving, yet somehow manages not to give up its intensity. Wow. I have a few more bottles, but the current CellarTracker drink-by dates say 2026-2036...there is no way I could wait that long; this drinks so well already. — 5 days ago
Pop and pour, a little over 5 years since my last bottle. This is downright gorgeous, and one of the best Cab Sauv I've had in a while. On the nose: soft boysenberry, some herbal notes, charcoal powder, tangy red fruit, so fresh and lively, but tempered with a touch of game and leather. On the palate, fantastic acidity, some plum and blackberry, a touch of soy, great salinity. Attenuated tannin on the juicy finish. This is at or perhaps slightly past peak, but a fantastic bottle of Cab. — 2 days ago
I gave instructions to get the 2013 Rhys Horseshoe Syrah, but this is what came up. Oh well. A lovely bottle. The nose is intoxicating: blackberry crisp, bramble, cola, soft olive, and fantastic salinity. On the palate, good acid, but maybe a touch softer than I would like. More cola, blackberry, soft olive. Good density, but perhaps thins out a little quickly. On the finish, the tannins are fine, but have a slightly pasty air. Very nice. Probably could have waited longer, but this is drinking well now. — 5 days ago
