Bit of a letdown with this #barbareso - quite muted aromatics, soft earthy cherry is most prominent. Nice texture on palate, decent acidity but the #nebbiolo is lacking verve here. — 2 years ago

This wine pours a clear rust red. It has aromas of leather on the nose. It has flavors of dried fruit that are restrained a bit. Strong structured tannins were present which I think is a trade mark. We decanted the wine for about 90 minutes first. It went very well with the grass fed ribeyes and lobster we cooked for my son-in-law’s birthday. That said, I was expecting more. I really thought it would blow me away and it didn’t. It was good, just not great. I don’t think it was too expensive at Costco. Cola and rose aromas, sweet tobacco and dried cherry shimmer with cilliate violet strands, and seared meat. Eucalyptus awash in tannins rakes the palate initially before softening to black and bing cherries, allspice, cinnamon and cedar. Clove puts the spice over the top in a food-worthy wine that checks every Barolo box and then some.

2013 hoists this producer stratospherically. Great wine with integrated tannins. Meaty nose of cured and sliced roast beef and black pepper; tinged brown-brick from its 10 year slumber; cigar wrap, and roulade, graphite and smoke, and just barely, dried, black mushroom and rose petal. The palate is lush. Cherry soft, raspberry reduction, shows round but pronounced tannic dunes. Our tar is integrated, chicory peeks forth, the pepper submerged in a perfect expression of varietal and vintage. Solid work Arpatin (winks at Mother Nature)!
