Med concentration with a pale ruby core and violet rim. Med + intensity with a decent amount of alcohol upfront. Med complexity showing ripe red and blue fruit. Cherry, boysenberry, crushed stones, stems, and purple flowers. Firm structure with med + tannins and acid. Full body. Less complex on the palate showing less fruit which is overwhelmed by the structure. Okay length. Definitely a food wine. 2011 Roagna Dolcetto D'Alba. The beast lives! This ain't no "Sweetish" drink. Big structure, super savoury, almost salty, blood like character supported by a big core of fruit. Looks like it's had some extended maceration, giving some earthiness and a bit of funk. There's a skinsy character, like the taste of red grape skins post ferment. It stained my tongue black! Raspberry, dried blackberry and cedar form a distinct potpourri when considered with the dried rose petal and orange bitters. There is a fleeting fruitiness that approaches strawberries dropped into a coniferous fire. Lovely, if firm tannins support a whale of a wine. Amazing depth with Roobios tea leafs, tobacco, graphite, bay leaf, bing cherry, dried black cherry and black currants on carbon paper and campfire ash, driven deep into a charred wormwood and dusty schist. 2013 hoists this producer stratospherically. Great wine with integrated tannins. Meaty nose of cured and sliced roast beef and black pepper; tinged brown-brick from its 10 year slumber; cigar wrap, and roulade, graphite and smoke, and just barely, dried, black mushroom and rose petal. The palate is lush. Cherry soft, raspberry reduction, shows round but pronounced tannic dunes. Our tar is integrated, chicory peeks forth, the pepper submerged in a perfect expression of varietal and vintage. Solid work Arpatin (winks at Mother Nature)!
