2009. Fresh from my COMA (can’t opine much anymore), I am greeted by the opulence of sauce Périgueux over smoked applewood bacon wrapped top sirloin. Four black truffles gave themselves to the dicing knives to achieve the feat. Purple Black and cloaked in sooty tar. Rings of pipe tobacco brooding. An olfactory, fungal, tor impudicus waving its spongey menace. Candied currants, bursting blackberry, dessicate plum, and dark earth beneath the litter of the fall. Braised offal. Coffee rye. Tart and black cherry punctuate the entry of swift and silken shadow overwhelming palate. One’s heart is black but this is blacker. Baked blackberry jus.

Nice nose with ripe peach, yeast, wet stone, lemon oil, still primary. On the palate, excellent acidity, loads of wet stone, intense lemon peel, and ok density. Good viscosity, and a tangy finish. Acidity is slightly disjointed, but a solid btl. — 6 years ago
