Wine #5 from my mixed case of Finger Lakes wines. I love the wines coming out of Ravines. This Dry Riesling from the White Springs Vineyard is absolutely delicious with notes of ripe juicy green apple, citrus, white peach, fresh cut green grass, lemon verbena and limestone. There is definitely some residual sugar here, but the medium plus acidity balances it out nicely. Cheers! — a month ago
One of the highest rated Finger Lakes Rieslings and absolutely delicious, fresh and vibrant for a 2014, even tart. Strong mineral note reminiscent of gravel, green apple, under ripe peach, lime zest, Meyer lemon. apple blossom, fresh thyme and a petrol note on the nose. Bought a mixed case of Finger Lakes wines and this was my second wine from the case. — a month ago
My wife wanted to buy me an interesting wine as a Valentine’s Day gift and chose the 2013 G.D. Vajra Kye Freisa. I’ve tasted a lot of the Piedmontese grape varietals, but never Freisa until tonight.
After a decent decant, the Kye, being a dark ruby color, was a deep, rich wine with notes of roasted strawberry, wild blueberry, black plum skin, rolled tobacco, white pepper, blood orange, dried herbs and hot asphalt. The wine initially seemed a little wild, earthy and gamey, but that blew off after a bit. Structurally, the Kye was medium plus body, medium plus tannin, high acid, and had a fairly long finish. Delicious wine that paired well with a fire roasted tomato bolognese with rotini. — 17 days ago
Another wine from my mixed case of Finger Lakes wines and my first ever from Forge. I’m a fan of wines from Tango Oaks, so I was excited to try this. The nose was muted with only slight notes of rose, red fruits and spice. The palate was definitely more interesting. Crunchy, fresh red berries that were juicy and succulent (tart cherry, cranberry and raspberry) with non-fruit notes of
rose, gravel, underbrush and baking spices.
Medium plus acid, medium tannin, medium body and a medium plus finish. You could tell this wine is well made, but it might need a few years to really come together. — a month ago
From a ripe vintage in the Finger Lakes, this beautiful single vineyard Cab Franc is one of my favorites from the Finger Lakes and my favorite red from Red Newt. Notes of ripe black cherry, pomegranate, raspberry and red licorice as well as hints of forest floor. new leather and smoke; smoke being a hallmark of the Glacier Ridge Vineyard. The oak is prominent on this with notes of cedar and cinnamon. Structurally, this wine was medium body, medium plus acid and medium to low tanning. Great food wine. — 2 months ago
This new offering from Forge Cellars continues to confirm my thought that Cab Francs are leading the way in single varietal reds from this region. Notes of ripe, lush fruits including blackberry, cherry and raspberry, as well as non fruit aromas smoke, earth and clove. This wine was really mouthwatering and delicious.

Beautiful Pinot Noir - Blaufrankisch blend from Ravines, my favorite producer in the Finger Lakes. This wine started off with a funky barnyard nose, possibly evidence of some brettanomyces. Once that blew off, the wine developed nicely with notes of tart cherry, cranberry and freshly picked blackberries. Notes of cedar and baking spices were evident as well, but they were well integrated. This is a single straight forward red blend from the FLX, but absolutely delicious.
