Premier Cru Burgundy

Domaine François Raveneau

Montée de Tonnerre Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2004

A hint of oxidative notes and a really pretty, quite intense nose. Lanolin, lemon oil, slate. Very clear and pretty with a splash of salinity on the finish. Good texture. Excellent. — 4 days ago

Domaine Armand Rousseau

Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2001

With a four hour decant this 2001 Rousseau Chambertin was ethereally light with a good finish but not as complex or the signature sappy fruit associated with Rousseau. A good wine not great. Next time will use a two hour decant — 10 days ago

Domaine François Raveneau

Valmur Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2020

A fantastic nose. Intense lemon, cool slate, an oiliness. Surprisingly oaky on the palate. Lovely balance and freshness but a few more years to let that oak settle and this should be amazing — 12 days ago

Don’t they supposedly only use old barrels yet it often tastes oaky young?

It’s the first time I’ve encountered oak this noticeable on Raveneau

Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2009

Needs some time. Not as mineral as Valmur. Solid but not real exciting. — 22 days ago

Morgon Gamay 2023

Trivia at Aldo Sohm wine bar. Our team lost by one point. This wine won by many points. I blind tasted my staff and they converged around Rhone. Great stuff! — 6 days ago

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Musigny Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2005

Intense and pretty with a bit of VA on the nose at first that blows off. Very pure fruit but still young and quite gnarly. Serious stuff, dark and intense. Will this ever dance lightly? I don’t know… impressive but less drinkable now that the 2000 alongside. — 4 days ago

I’m not a fan of the Millet era Vogue. Too Cabernet-like. Older ones can be mind bending.

Domaine des Lambrays

Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2008

Very pretty on the nose. Rose petals, lifted raspberry. Cherry and bright shrill spicy notes. Clear and defined. Very good — 2 days ago

Finally a Mr Duffy bottle that aged well. Deep color with crisp citrus. Delicious — 17 days ago
