Ochota Barrels

The Fugazi Vineyard Grenache 2024

The light cherry red in colour belies the intensity of the palate. Cherry and raspberry flavours - some herbal notes. The Grenache grapes from a sandy terroir in McLaren Vale - most suitable. 77 year old vines. The wine was made in a natural style - fresh and young - juicy. Interesting back story: When the Rolling Stones were touring Australia in 2014 with a gig in Adelaide, Mick Jagger plus Keith’s wife and a few others decided to visit the Adelaide Hills and had lunch there with Taras Ochota and his wife. Apparently the Stones bought all of their inventory and had a memorable stay. Sadly Taras passed away a few years ago. — 13 days ago

Quinta do Vale Meão

Meandro Douro Red Blend 2020

Dark red purple. Inviting nose and medium full, fruit-forward (for a European) palate of blueberry-blackberry compote. Bright medium acidity and medium minus tannins that mostly assert back-palate. Dark and slightly bitter finish (Touriga Nacional showing). Fine example of Portuguese non-Porto red. Ready for hearty entrées like roasted beef or pork. Drink now through 2028. — a month ago

Lagier Meredith

Mount Veeder Syrah 2005

Still quite dark purple-red color, nose is quite closed, some mineral, iodine and black pepper aromas, red and black fruits which taste quite primary and youthful, great acid balance, structure shows in the long, lingering finish, I’d guess 10-15 more years of further aging on this to maturity, but awfully great tonight!! — a month ago

The Dead Arm McLaren Vale Shiraz 2008

An excellent full bodied Shiraz from a warm year in McLaren Vale and South Australia in general. Red and black fruits with a tarry creosote note as in previous notes. Rich and flavoursome on the full bodied palate but not heavy - very well done. The Dead Arm is the top red cuvée from d’Arenberg. Drinking at its peak. — a month ago
