Evangelho Vineyard Heritage Zinfandel Blend

A big wine in a big bottle that made a big group of friends very happy. The 2017 Evangelho Heritage (from magnum) is energetic with loads of sweet dark fruit. It doesn’t lack zing even though this year’s blend is short in Carignan — there are nice balancing acids and mild tannins. It is richer and riper than many vintages but still vibrant. — 5 months ago

Bien Nacido Vineyard Syrah 2015

2015 Vintage. 15.1% Alcohol. Wow, this is now in it’s prime drinking window. Big fruit with good acidity and velvet mouthfeel from resolved tannins. Loved it. Mmm... Bien Nacido fruit from Santa Barbara. — 4 years ago

La Jota Vineyard Co.

Howell Mountain Merlot 2018

Chalky grape and balsa, blackberry, and plum nose with soft smoke and jasmine with a sweet petrol gloss. Soft mouthfeel turns bing cherry and underripe blueberries bordering green. Chewy. Big fruit tannins. A spicy pepper that always turns piquant-fruit. Young in every way, would love to see this chrysalis emerge.

Pagani Ranch Heritage Sonoma Valley Red Blend 2015

This is a big, bold, , powerful, chewy wine. Not a nuanced one. Very nice if that's your thing. — 2 years ago

Monte Rosso Sonoma Valley Zinfandel 2012

Decanted for 2 hours. Still big, no signs of fading. Did not drink enough before it was consumed to review properly, but seemed a touch sweet. — 3 years ago

Pali Wine Co.

Huntington Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2018

I’m a big fan of PNs from SLH and maybe see SB a second with some others but this Pali (under $20) bottling just kept on opening and ended up with a lot of sweet berries. If you don’t get Pali check them out and join their club. Great drinking whites and reds — 5 years ago
