Rose in October? Rose with ‘age’? Yes and yes, especially when it’s in the mid-70s in New York and it’s the ‘21 Bedrock Ode to Lulu. This wine gives you plenty of Bandol for the buck, based on old vine Mourvedre from premier vineyards. With another year in bottle, it was darker hued, subtler and perhaps even a bit sturdier than on initial release. A great wine for what feels like an endless summer. — 25 days ago
The 2009 seemed a bit past its prime midway through 2024. Some lovely fruit and minerality marred by prune/raisin flavors. Disappointing. — 2 months ago
This is a substantial wine with lots of depth and complexity. A field blend, the 2013 Pagani Heritage is nearly black in the glass with a musty nose of dark berries and dried fruit. It’s still rich with drying and framing tannins, berry, mocha and earth. Ten years on it is still a heavyweight. — 2 days ago
First experience with the ‘09 Ramey Rodgers Creek Syrah some 15 years after harvest. Shows beautifully still. Inky, minerality and dark fruits on the nose, incredibly smooth on the palate with graphite, earth, plum, brambly blackberry and more. Powerful now with some years left. — a month ago
The ‘05 Hayne Petite Syrah is still vibrant nearly 20 years on. Inky, dark chocolate in color with graphite, Kirsch, earth and a hint of evergreen on the nose. Smooth and mouth-filling, loaded with dark fruit, even a touch of cocoa. Super long finish on red fruit tanginess. Probably still has years left if you can get your hands on any. — 2 months ago

The 2020 Dupratt Zinfandel from one of Turley’s more remote holdings drank more like a Barbera at first before mellowing with air. On opening the nose of bright red fruit, earth and forest spread across the room and it hit with raspberry, a touch of smokiness and some near citrus like acidity. Over time, this transitioned to dark berries and graphite and a long smooth finish, never completely losing its edge. A unique Zin, great with food. — 18 days ago
The 2021 Dolinsek from Bedrock is super-bright, fruit forward and has an almost effervescent acidity. It’s a great food wine right now and probably great for some fall sipping in the upcoming weeks. — 2 months ago
The very young ‘21 Amoenus from Maybach and Thomas Brown has many characteristics of its namesake family’s vehicles: it’s smooth, nuanced, subtly powerful and finely detailed. Inky purple with a deep, oaky nose layered with plum, blackberry and minerals. Incredibly smooth and viscous on the palate, rich with grainy tannins, wonderful dark fruits with a touch of pepper on the finish. Built to last. — 3 months ago

Lovely, dry sparkler made from an atypical mix of whites that produced nice floral notes, minerality and buttery toast. — a day ago
