Louis Latour

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 1983

Served around 55°F. The cork looked all kinds of nasty underneath the capsule but I was able to extract it, intact, with the help of a Durand. I then poured the bottle into a decanter about 30min prior to service. At the ripe age of 41, the 1983 pours a deep gold with a transparent core; medium viscosity with some slight signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of baked stone fruits: peach, apricot, marmalade, hazelnuts, baked lemon, and those gummy peach rings. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is creamy, buttery. I thought this was a lovely, mature Corton Charlemagne and while it is very much alive, its life-force is fading. Drink now. — 7 months ago

Pfalz Spätburgunder 2020

Rotten eggs on the nose. Once this blows off this turns out to be an excellent and interesting Burgh like Pinot for less money. Terrific aromatics. Cherry, earth, touch crushed marble, hint meyer lemon, some spice, just a hint of all-spice.Only 12.5% yeah! — 8 months ago

Spätburgunder Kallstadter Saumagen Grosses Gewächs 2017

Cool, fresh, with great depth. Cool, dark fruit, a herby edge, a whiff of tree bark. So enticing.
Cool & fresh on the palate, amazing flow! Perfectly polished & integrated, fine tannins, juicy acidity, black cherry & dark plum, a hint of Mandarine peel freshness, a herby edge. Amazing flow! So juicy, so fresh, so clean.
What a beautiful wine

Das Kleine Kreuz Pfalz Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Very Bordeaux in style, cassis, dark plums and black currant, a whiff of cedar wood. An earthy note, too. A touch of blackberry jam.
On the palate this remains fresh with zippy acidity, crunchy dark fruit, a nice tannic frame. The wood perfectly integrated, the finish fresh, juicy. This is delicious, year in, year out.

Salmariano Riserva Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Verdicchio 2014

Green pea and lemon, butternut and chive; a waxy Semillon essence, leek and white pepper. Perfect age here on a magnum, and shining incandescent. Garden melange on the palate showing baby spinach minus the tannin and crunchy sprouted barley but bouncing hard to lemon abcf citrus peel to deliver a creamy yet pithy framework that rings undeniably dry and lemongrass forever. Excellent in every way and singularly expansive. The DOCG is well -deserved and remarkable. Aloe and chayotes.
