Château Sociando-Mallet

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

2020 vintage. Last tasted 3.16.24 (9.2). Medium-heavy body. Nice richness, dill and fruit up front along the dial. Took approx an hour but the tannins finally started rolling in. Tannic handshake upped the score from a 9.2 to a 9.3. 7.7.24. — 5 months ago

You’re a brave man popping a Sociando this young. I’d be too afraid of getting punched in the mouth.

The Eyrie Vineyards

Rolling Green Pinot Noir 2016

The OG and still one of the best! Willamette's first winery and vineyard for Pinot Noir. Juicy, sappy and pretty red Pinot fruit with streaks of earth, mineral, and spice. — 3 years ago

Château Malescot St. Exupéry

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

2015 vintage. Giving nose with lotsa mint/menthol. Heavy body as usual. That mint/menthol rolling thru the finish with plum. rhubarb and a really really small floater of pomegranate. Lacking in concentration on the finish, however, so a bit disappointing as it stands now. Compared to the 2014? Not even close. Since it's a fave Margaux property, triple decanted to coax as much potential as possible but came up a little short. — 3 years ago

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1985

1985 vintage. Arguably, my fave wine but first time ever tasting this vintage. It didn’t suck. Decanted. Throwing appropriate sed. Light-medium body. Mixed elderly funk nose with the trademarked cocoa powder and blueberry early on after an hour decant. Bright cherry and ripe plum rolling after two hours decanted. More stuffing than expected. Really nice specimen. Definitely not getting any better but at the top of the bell curve for another 2-3 years. Window is closing. Run, don't walk. 5.11.23. — 2 years ago

Petit Manou

Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Cigar, cedar, black currant, toast and a tiny bit of vanilla. The palate is well made with a strong acid backbone, a good fruit all along, a smooth, almost velvety mouthfeel, rolling tannins in the rear before a long finish with currant, these rolling tannins, a tiny bit of a salty touch. It plays way above its league — 3 years ago

Meinklang

Konkret St. Laurent

Crushed St. Laurent, crushed velvet, crushed granite.

All up in each other, purple murky sediment, gritty and suspended in perfumey rolling acid.

Sour plums, blackberries, rain water, dusty pebbles.

From @Joshua Sigler “Recently I’ve paid €79 for a wine I liked a lot less.”

Perfect for a rainy Irish evening overlooking the rolling hills of County Clare in the Burren with Sheep grazing in the distance.
