Miracle Valley

Continuum

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2022

2022 vintage. Light-medium body. Not decanted and tasted after 2 hours open. Dusty, earthy intro. Some cherry mid-palate with a return to forever dust, earth, herbs, spices, Etsy/micro-producer attitude paired with serious backing and terroir. Long finish. Wanted and expected both more front and mid-palate action and mouthfeel but wasn't getting it. To be fair...without a decant...and a new release as a distinctively different (leaner) style would be a slight miracle to be (perceived) as a pop and pour. Needs at least a half-decade to be fairly assessed but, decidedly, quality juice. 10.25.25. — 8 months ago

Diamond Creek Vineyards

Volcanic Hill Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

A Thanksgiving miracle! Was so worried that this bottle corked by the staining on the cork, but is all ended well! The fruit is barely there on this bottle from my favorite vineyard (Volcanic Hill) from Diamond Creek. Still an immense presence and complexity after decanting for 4 hours. Time had made this bottle a little more delicate than the others, but unmistakable Diamond Creek. Glasses were raised to Al and Boots as the vineyard has now been bought by Roederer. I believe it is in food hands. — 6 years ago

A producer that really shines with this kind of age. Love their work in the 80’s & 90’s.

The consensus among Biblical scholars is that Jesus turned water into pinot noir for his first miracle. This bottle confirms that, even though it doesn’t quite reach the quality served at Cana that fateful day. — 7 years ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

So here is the thing. Mr A. Scott is right. He did not say it in so many words - i guess he wants to clear out T.J.’s. But this wine which can be awful in some years is right on and for 15$ buy it by the case. The classic Barolo flavors one would expect + surprisingly anise on the nose and in the glass. Tons of tannins which could turn off for the usual crowd. But this is actually very very good for what it is. Unbeatable at this price. A miracle. — 2 years ago

On open this is sick. Deep minerals. Some apple. Really dense. Perfumed.

Palate is almost a sweet fruit. Great minerality. Wow.

Bought from fass selections.

An hour in - Petrified flowers. Silky. Elegant juice. Green apple flower crunchy acids. Holy holy holy crap.

Like drinking perfume capsules of aromatics. As this opens this is a miracle. Like drinking perfume if it tasted good.

A Bucket list wine.

You need to open it. Drink alone or +1 over 2 hours. This is more mineral. The morgeot more fruit-driven.

Brisset reborgeon and buffet are all very special and very underpriced (for now). So you want to see what you want to stock up on while you can.

Terre des Aînés Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2019

Vintage 2019 | I love this wine. It’s a idiosyncratic character. A Beast. Not willing to show charm. Very old school: classic smell, peat, cedar. Hint of chocolate. I thought it to be a Tannat, that says it. Put away in the cellar for another 3 - 5 years and get it on a windy, rainy autumnday for a dinner with wild boar of deer. Probably you will be amazed and witness a miracle. — 2 years ago

Moulin Touchais

Coteaux du Layon Chenin Blanc 1994

Vintage 1994 | Tasted blind. After unwrapping I saw this wine stood next to a Montlouis Moelleux from Chidaine. A unique opportunity to compare. Poured in the glass it looked syrupy, so a bit more fat from Coteaux du Layon compared with the Montlouis elegance. In smell: flowers, almonds and nougat. Beautiful concentration and a little miracle to see such a vivid colour after 29 years. A Chenin Blanc icon. — 3 years ago

Real Vinicola

Vintage Port 1961

Simply one of the greatest wines I’ve ever tried to date, the 1961 Real Vinicola is my first venture into mature Port and a complete eye-opener to this style of wine.

A veritable miracle on opening, the wine has a clear brick-red colour and a hauntingly beautiful nose. There are exotic aromas of toasted nuts, dried cherry, fig, raisin, lavender and clove; it’s a wine you don’t need to taste for a long time, such is the intrigue up front. The palate, then, is explosive for a wine of this age, almost full bodied with great complexity and acidity that belies its six decades of life.

The finish is staggeringly long, with a lasting impression on the palate. A new and totally enthralling experience for me in the world of wine.
