Château Talbot
Saint-Julien Cabernet Sauvignon Blend
Rich, robust structure. Ripe blackberries and plum, slight bitter dark chocolate. New oak shows heavily on the nose. Ripe tannins that will soften with age. This can be laid down easily another 10+ years.

Aug 25th, 2022This estate owes its name to Connetable Talbot, the English general & governor of the province of Guyenne who was defeated at the famous Battle of Castillon in 1453. Aromas of sweet black fruits with floral and earthy notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry & blueberry with cacao and tobacco spice, on a well balanced frame. Fine rustic tannins, long savory ending with fruit, spice and cedar character.

Jun 19th, 20212016 opened April 2021. Roses and a hint of rhubarb and loam on the nose. Ripe cherries on the front. A silky medium-bodied tannic structure holds all the flavor elements of this wine together — right up until the end — then it fades abruptly to create a disappointingly short finish. Lots of citrusy high notes — grapefruit and lemon zest — begin at the mid palate, and they linger a while after the rest of the flavors fade. They are not unpleasant, but it would’ve been nice to have the tannic structure to offset them at the very finish. This is a very drinkable but light-weight wine. Not very interesting nor challenging.

Apr 9th, 2021Bordeaux calls the 2016, the miracle vintage. After reading about the 2016 vintage in Bordeaux I settled on Chateau Talbot. Dark inky in color, medium bodied, Lapins cherries, plums and a hint of anise.
