Dark purple/black color. Intense aromas of blueberry, vanilla, smokey bacon fat and caramel. The bold palate is quite complex. Flavors of blue/black berry fruit, dark chocolate, maple, ripe plums, black pepper and coffee. Rich and plush. Mouth coating texture. Long finish and chewy tannins. Ultra full bodied and quite expressive. Works especially well with grilled meat. — 6 months ago

Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec, 4% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% St. Macaire, 1% Cabernet Franc and 2% Carmenere, aged for 22 months in French oak, 22% new, deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruits with spice, herb and earthy notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry, ripe cherry, fig and blueberry compote with currants, cacao, pepper and earthy notes. Fine rustic tannins, good structure, long finish, great mouthfeel, ending with cedar, fruit and earthy character. Wonderful! Very Nice. — 8 months ago

Hermitage Syrah 2001

This bottle was a library release from the Chave cellars. Decanted about an hour prior to service (but could have benefited from more time) and enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2001 Chave rouge pours a deep ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of charred blueberry pie, mushrooms, scorched earth, grilled meat, coffee, black pepper and soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and super complex. With more and more air, this really came into its own. Totally Chave. Totally Hermitage. Totally awesome. Drink now with a little patience and through 2041. — 20 days ago

Second wine of this estate located on the southern edge of Saint-Julien, blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, deep Ruby with purple edges, aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, adding notes of cedar and earth. On the palate flavors of blackberry and ripe blueberry fruit with tobacco, oak and spice. Fine grippy tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, spice and wet earthy notes. Deep ruby coloration. On the nose, forest floor, plum, cherry, currants, spice and bbq. On the palate, blueberry, blackberry, cherry, plum, and high acidity right out of the bottle. After breathing some, notes of cedar, minerals, tobacco, and spice, carrying through to a longer finish of cherry, vanilla and mint. Tannins strong but balanced. — 8 months ago
