A crunchy, vibrant field blend of Nebbiolo & Croatina ++. Full of energy & character.
Ripe cherries with flowery notes, underlined with some stony minerality and a bit of orange zest freshness. So enticing & fresh. Very alive.
Joyful & crunchy on the palate with edgy, juicy tannins, zippy acidity and cherries galore. Delicious, unpretentious stuff - so drinkable and so food friendly. Another benchmark glou-glou wine.

Adjacent profile wise to Northern Rhone: gamey, mineral & earthiness to it’s core; it’s the decaying rose petals, & hibiscus edges (& lighter shades) that point to its true, Nebbiolo soul. I’ve heard some wine folks mourn the loss of the original Valana, & that the younger family upstarts can’t come close to the originals. I don’t know, but for about 25$ this is is dang-it good Alpine red. — a month ago

Nose : cherry spice. Cherry licorice intense florals.

Palate: sweet cherry. So elegant. Lovely. Elite balance. Hint of elegant spice.

Seriously. If you like nebbiolo you are nuts not to buy a case of this at this price.

Wowza! A big nose of tar & blood oranges. Both day 1 and 2. A minimally f’d with Nebbiolo from a cooler site, put into large Slovenian oak. Not forever, but enough. No wood apparent. But it’s luscious, just short of full. ( There have been Baroli pass these lips that were not up to this). A hidden gem. — a month ago

Great vintage, soulful rendition of Nebbiolo, but just know it’s more like a 3 minute Stax records hit, rather than a long play jam of, say, Les Mcann Compared To What. Still, for20$, I’d choose it most days of the week. Some of that burnished leather furniture & forest floor is coming through the Nebbiolo, & so it’s more black fruited & evocative than peppy. Just know it’s a shorter finish. — 2 months ago
