Polish Hill River Riesling 2019

MICHAEL COOPER DipWSET
8.8

Bone dry. High acid. What’s not to like? Well, it’s a 2019 and the label even says “with careful cellaring, this wine will develop into a wonderful aged Riesling” I don’t want to cellar a #Riesling from #australia #clarevalley I want to buy it and drink it now. I hardly cellar anything really and nothing under $50. I didn’t buy this to cellar it (guess I should’ve read the fine text). Point is, quite sharp and malic and the range of aromas and flavors is sour lemon, sour lime, sour orange and hints of bitter, sour yoghurt. It’s racy and good for spicy food. — 3 years ago

@MICHAEL COOPER The cellaring will be well rewarded I can assure you Michael - particularly from Polish Hill.

This is #Shiraz from #Australia Deep and brooding ruby color from #oldvines #mclarenvale On the nose blackberry black cherry blueberry and ink. Followed up by hints of oak, dark chocolate, cedar and toast. You can’t drink the whole bottle because between the power and depth and the 15% noticeable alcohol it would be kamikaze. But...you don’t care #hedonistic — 4 years ago

This is a great wine, if you wait it out 10-15y the alcohol starts to dissipate.

Still a little too tight and acidic. Unfortunately has a screwcap so slower evolution in bottle and I don’t know if I’m willing to wait. My feeling is that wines with screwcap closures should be bottled when they are considered ideal for consumption. #cabernetsauvignon #australia — 3 years ago

I have had 10+ years of cellared wines under screw cap and I can assure you they develop aged characters - particularly Rieslings. The major upside is no more corked wines.

That is an interesting statement Michael.

I’m with
@Bob McDonald here and can attest to fine wines evolving under screw cap. 👍🏼

Solid 9.0. #barossa valley #barossavalley blend of #gsm #grenache, #shiraz and #mataro or #garnacha #syrah and #monastrell #mourvedre Deep deep color typically ripe (low latitude=intense sunlight) medium (+) aromas of red and black fruit, hints of ink, chocolate and toast. On the palate...as one would expect, ripe and juicy. Maintains a lovely balance between the ripeness and juicy sweetness of the fruit, the medium acidity and the high alcohol (hardly noticeable) and ripe tannins. Good stuff. Reminds me of my wines from Campo de Borja. #australia #southaustralia — 4 years ago

#winery just bought by #jacksonfamily wines and I completely understand why. Amazing. #yarravalley #chardonnay pale lemon color, the wine has pronounced aromas of citrus (lemon, nectarine and grapefruit) and stone fruit (apricot) with secondary aromas of toast, flint and butter. On the palate the wine is dry with medium (+) acidity, medium/high 13,5% alcohol, medium(+) body and pronounced flavours. With a certain hint of lemon yoghurt and cream. Medium (+) Creamy finish. Outstanding #australia — 4 years ago
