La Dame de Montrose Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

This is the 2019 Chateau Montrose La Dame de Montrose. Saint-Estèphe Gironde, France Bordeaux. The blend is 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, perfume rose petals, green bell pepper, spice, vanilla and earth.

On the palate is black cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, herbaceous, green bell pepper, licorice, black pepper and a real dark earth edge.

This wine is beautifully full bodied with medium + to high but not overbearing acidity and medium + sinewy muscular firm tannins that nicely move into a long black fruit rich earthy finish. This can definitely be a top line Bordeaux. I hope everyone is well. This weekend looks to be a good one. Drink something special with someone special. Stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

We’re very sad this is among the last of Kitá Wines on the market… Yet we’re also very grateful to still have a couple of bottles to sip and savor over time.

Kitá Wines was situated in Santa Ynez Valley AVA, within the broader Santa Barbara County of the Central Coast of California, where conditions can range from cool and foggy to warm and dry, depending on your proximity to the coast.

The winery was founded in 2010 by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians with renowned Winemaker Tara Gomez (a Chumash descendant) at the helm of day-to-day operations. Kitá Wines closed in April of 2022, leaving an indelible mark on the wine industry with a lasting (and award-winning) reputation for impeccable quality and deliciousness.

This wine is the 2014 Kitá Wines “Kalaš” red blend, comprised of 48% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot, with 13.5% ABV.

It had a medium garnet hue and vibrant notes of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, plum, violets, green bell pepper, cedar, nutmeg, vanilla, leather, tobacco, and graphite.

Vintage Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1974

Light rubi robe, like an old Barolo. Intoxicating and sweet aromas of plums, spices, tobacco and secondary and tertiary aromas. Wine is dry and light on its feet, complex, decadent. Lacks a bit of density and length in the finish. I imagine this was stunning at its prime. This bottle was high shoulder so perhaps a better conserved bottle will show more. Fantastic 48 years old that is fully mature but holds pretty well after 1 hour we opened. Reminder of how great California Cab can be. — 2 years ago
