Still embryonic, Mascarello’s 2010 Barolo (magnum) shows all the classicism it did when I first tasted it from cask many years ago. There is a feeling of crystalline purity and translucence here that is simply captivating. This is Nebbiolo and Barolo in all its glory in what has turned out to be an epic vintage for the estate. Time in the glass brings out scents of lavender, dried flowers and dark fruit, all wrapped together by huge swaths of tannin. Readers lucky enough to own the 2010 are in for a tremendous treat. Nose explodes with raspberries. Palate is good amount of acidity. Tart berry jam and some earth. Better with food. I like it and it is unique but not sure I’d buy again. — 8 months ago
A brilliant vintage for this. Honeyed apricots, limestone, baked apple, honeysuckle, so aromatic and ripe but also tense and mineral. Palate is ripe, rich and honeyed but has dazzling purity and freshness and a nougat character to the wine. Mouthwatering and perfectly balanced. Brilliant! As this airs it’s getting much more grip and structure. Really dense and mineral but also honeyed and opulent. Multifaceted. — a year ago

Last bottle. No formal notes. Wow. Just one of the best values I have ever had. Unreal density, purity and length. Saline and flowers. Just brilliant. — a day ago
