96 really is quite a vintage. Double decanted yesterday, showed well at first. But with the extra time it was just stunning. — a month ago

Opened the 97 Monprivato back in spring and it wasn’t showing that well. This one seems fresher, more balanced. Not just fully mature but beginning a very slow decline. Nonetheless the depth of fruit, richness of the tar, smoke, herb, and sous bois is terrific. — 25 days ago
2022. Intensity of the fruit is amazing. — 20 days ago
98 was not a great vintage and why Giacosa bottled the SS as a red label has long been a bit of a mystery. There’s a lot in this wine to like, and no reason to leave it sitting in the cellar. Fully mature, ample bricking, softer but still lively fruit, rich mouthfeel with classic sous bois, a bit of iron, red berry and herbal overlay, and soft maybe a bit overripe tannin. Lovely, but not near Giacosa’s most memorable SSRs. — 2 months ago

Double decanted 3 hours before service. Layered notes of honey, stone fruit, hints of nuts and straw. Quite lovely. — 12 days ago
