Light, crisp and clean in its own, some body to it, picked up the spice of a mole mussel bite, with increased salinity and flavor to the finish. — 2 years ago

2010 vintage. Seductive vintage with sweet floral bouquet, jasmine nectar, ripe black cherry, overripe blackberry, fig, raisin, medjool date, mussel shells, blueberry, mulberry. Graphite rich black currant, tart black cherry, savory, chicory coffee, licorice, charred mint, lit tobacco, and bitter chocolate. Gorgeous and ample.

Greco! Reminds me of Ageno. Orange rind, candied, marmalade, mint / sage, musky. Great food wine, punchy, enticing, mouth-watering, multidimensional. Amazing with mussels in saffron-garlic-tomato broth. Perfect match with mussel mealiness and wine astringency on palate (without any bitterness!). — 5 years ago
Another mussel shoals in CA? I only knew the place in the southeast where they made great soul music. The label has a b.w. photo of an old pier. Cool. Dark as blackberry pie filling color. Smells like rocks, berry fruit sauce, and leather. Hint of wood and wood oils too. Flavors are dense and big. But nicely augmented with a bit of acid and plenty of earth. Fruit is there. Little bit of cherry fruit leather perhaps. Some cola nut. Plenty of tannin too. This could handle even more time aging away. As is now it’s interesting, a little strange and very unique. Little those old soul classics from the other Mussel Shoals it hits though. A hip shaking winner. — 3 months ago

2/2021. Big and full of flavor. Nice finish. Paired nicely with the Pasta Fagioli Soup and the Mussel & Lobster Spaghettini at Gervais and Vine.

Pic #3. 2013 Domaine Huet, Le Mont, Vouvray Sec. Golden hue with notes of melon, honeydew, cantaloupe, pear, white flowers, and grapefruit on the palate. Well-balanced and complemented the Lake Superior whitefish served in a mussel jus, with guanciale, and Brussels sprouts. Also in this pic is a tortellini enveloping a bite of good thunder cheese, tossed with zucchini agrodolce, baby corn, Swiss chard, and black trumpet mushrooms (which was paired with the Barbera on next pic, 4) #vouvray #cheninblanc #winesofloire #loirevalley #touraine — 7 years ago

Vintage 2018 | what a difference a day makes… the weather… the food… the company… perhaps this is my last bottle, thought I needed to drink up… but today paired with a mussel potato salad this wine is vibrant… smell of lychees, citrus and some vanilla. Tastes well, juicy. So happy… my wife and I drank the bottle -except a glass that went with the mussels - all at once. — 10 months ago
Darker than the Muschelkalk with more weight. The M. is grown on Mussel based limestone. This is grown on red sandstone. Like the one used for the Cathedral in Freiburg. Much more approachable then the M. Dark cherries, turmeric, black tea, elderberry, hint black currant. I don’t know but - i just feel sorry for the many people who never had a chance to try these wines. The Muschelkalk is often limited to 1-2 barrels and the Buntsandstein to 3-4. The Liason their mid level wines are more broadly available and also very good. Will be at the winery in May for a barrel tasting. A ridiculous value for the money if you can find it. — 2 years ago
Depth of purple-black is stunning. Rim to rim unvarying. Currant leaf, black currant blackberry, burnt plum, smoke, mussel shell, morel, black cherry powder, African violet. Rich and focused both in mouthfeel and expression. Moist pipe tobacco, black cherry, graphite, dark chocolate, blueberry skins, cedar, cinnamon and dried violets. Generous finish with herbal-fruit interplay magnificently articulated.

An elegant wine that is very enjoyable and special but not quite elite. I’d actually give it a 9.35 as its borderline 9.4. Easily the heaviest Bottle of wine I’ve ever seen- which I personally think means quality. A friend brought it to dinner and it was the best of the night but can’t say It is worth the price tag if I had to purchase. Not a white but easily Complimented my sea bass and mussel meal perfectly. — 5 years ago
