It's not a steal it's a heist... superb raspberry, cherry and hay notes with some earthy and oaky touches. A palate that goes on for ever, gentle tannins that add a gentle layer of complexity. In 1953, Jean Baumard acquired vineyard in Quarts de Chaume, in 1968, purchased substantial acreage in Savennieres. Today Jean’s son, Florent, manages the winery. Aromas of green fruits, floral and flinty notes. On the palate green apple, pear, melon and slight nutty flavors, well balanced with acidity. Medium+ length ending, no fluttering with fresh juicy mineral, just like the butterfly on the label! Will age well if you can resist opening. — 7 years ago

The smoke hasn’t cleared on this battle worn soldier. Really strong sense of gun powder! Volatilize, and peeks of lime pith or lemon verbena squeeze through the cracks like light in your lashes, revealing pepper and pecan shell, black mushroom spores and elm, with cigar sweetness and black lime on a smoky battlefield. Palate is lime pith and zest and oil and candied lime sparkles floating down a lemon juice river, with thick, thick lemon pith banks. Kind of a gangly age here, but showing depth and intensity. Need to see this one when it matures, sculpted like an Olympian.

Very last bottle of this. Again the cork is fully soaked. The nose is typical cherry and red berries, along with an earthy thing and a bit of hay. The palate is acid driven and very long. There is a nice matter, a gentle mouthfeel, a nice cherry and red berries note all along, almost a sweet spot on the sides. In the rear some tannins pop in creating a layer of disturbance in the mouthfeel that remains hanging in there for a very long finish with fruit. It's very good but it's starting to show early signs of aging and I don't believe the bottle could have waited much longer before going south. A little less fruity than aux damodes, a bit stricter and longer. Cool nevertheless — 5 years ago

Pop and pour. On the nose: soft struck match, crushed rock, lemon oil, and some toast, which I don't think I noticed last time. On the palate: fantastic acidity, muddled mint, crushed rock, iodine, lemon oil, vanilla and lovely density. A touch of tang on the juicy and mineral finish. — 4 years ago

Really like this Wine, tasting ‘17 & ‘18 together, ‘17 notes. The Baumard family growing the noble Chenin at Rochefort in the Anjou for centuries, in 1953 they acquired a vineyard in the Quarts de Chaume, & in 1968, purchased acreage in Savennieres. Straw with full fruit and light spice aromas. On the palate ripe apple, pear & melon, complex, with vivid acidity. Lingering, ending with mineral and sweet honey character. Wow. A white that should age well. Had ‘16 a while ago, and also great! — 6 years ago
