Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 1998

Though I’m not enthusiastic on this producer, 1998 CdP consistently delivers magic. — 23 days ago

Adorable CdP. Quite sope power, full bodied but with a deeper aromatic layer. Nice — 2 months ago

Clos Saint Jean

Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2007

A delightful CDP! Full-bodied but not overpowering. Smokey and tangy with a lot of floral notes. Raspberries, kirsch, blackberries, with a satisfying finish. Drinking exceptionally well now. — 4 months ago

A full body rich CdP. Ripe sweet black fruit core complemented by lots of earthy and herbal nuances. Trace of heat on the long finish. Need another 4-5 years. — 5 months ago

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe

La Crau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Clairette Blend 2021

Interestingly, this was the best-conditioned white of the night. Of course it had to be one I’m not particularly fond of, but I’m still very thankful that there wasn’t even a hint of discernible [premature] oxidation. The nose hits you with a melange of fruits ranging from pineapples to mangoes to peaches and candied orange peels, followed by notes of cream, honey, and some woody, floral nuances. On the palate, it was expectedly rich and rounded, yet still maintained some juicy energy. Finished lightly bitter with a herbaceous touch. An archetypal CDP blanc! Would be better with the right food. — 14 days ago

Bosquet des Papes

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend

Less $$ than most CdP. Definitely recognizable as from its appellation… and a good deal, but, sure, you gotta expect to get no more than you pay for. Less nose than I like. Plenty of heat. Green cerignola olives w/o any brine. Tannic (in a good way for me). Tart red fruits. Bit of gravel juice. A Sturdy wine. Not terribly nuanced. Missing the highlights of many spiky, delicious flavors that all meld together brilliantly of the higher end CdPs, but, hey, i paid half as much as those cost…twice as much as some Côtes du Rhônes which are “correct” yet lack even more nuanced yumminess. I am happy to but this again at this price. — 3 months ago

Domaine de Beaurenard (Paul Coulon et Fils)

Boisrenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 1990

Cork broke on this one, faint cork notes initially but I think this is just mature, lovely older CdP luxury cuvée, but definitely not great, very good!! — 5 months ago

Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend

1995 Beaucastel.
Touch of very old balsamic on the nose is tucked deep inside coffe rye, sage, loose tobacco, dried strawberry, black cherry, African violet and rosemary rubbed, grilled rack. Dark chocolate, espresso, dried violet, maduro tobacco, blackberry, cassis, and black pepper. Alive and well with great density despite melding smoothness and tannin integration. In a very sweet spot now!
