The Wedge

Domaine Henry Pellé

Menetou-Salon Morogues Pinot Noir Rosé 2017

Just concluded the annual Fall seclusion at our cabin in the Rangeley lakes region of Maine, mobile service up there is mostly non-existent, after several days I am posting again. Notes are somewhat brief, as my focus is relaxing and watching the Common Loons swimming and diving in the cove in front of our camp.

Nose has ripe peach, cut cherries, tangerine peel dry sandstone and moist hay.
Palate has strawberry, peach, lime wedge, tart cherries, dry-sandy soil and a long finish. This bottle is just holding wonderfully and as fate would have us, we're enjoying our last bottle of the vintage.

Durbacher Plauelrain Trocken Scheurebe 2016

Nose has fresh lemon pith, sage, blackcurrant blossoms, lime peel, freshly mown field and a warm pile of granite rocks.

Palate has dried strawberry, dried red currant (really, wth is this doing in here?), lime wedge, pineapple core, green melon rind and granite chips.

Every day of the week I will tell you that I should really drink more of the Scheurebe in our collection, but I have to practice restraint. Time is always a benefit, this bottle has evolved, shedding some of its youthful acidity but still kicking ass. Laser focused, very good.

That’s a lot of fruit for a scheurebe. I usually get lots of spice and acid in mine. I haven’t gotten these ones but maybe this harvest. Hard not to drink them young!

@Chris Shultz Spice and acid is Gewürztraminer for me. You should definitely try to pick up any of the Laible stuff, killer value, stellar wines with offers finely curated by you-know-who.

Notes are somewhat brief, as my focus is relaxing and watching the Common Loons swimming and diving in the cove in front of our camp.

Nose has moist limestone, cold lime wedge, under-ripe pear, sweet yellow apple, tangerine zest, light petrol notes and dry limestone pebbles.
Palate has candied pineapple, dried lemon, lemon zest, warmed green apple with ripe acidity and a classy, rich limestone finish, long and contemplative.

Opened another bottle first and was extremely disappointed so went to this. Would have given a 9+ but felt like some dill flavoring over powered some of the fruit. Overall enjoyable and will have again. — 7 months ago

White Blend 2018

Epoch 18 White.Tart green/yellow apple, beehive with lime & minerality?!? slate & lemon wedge enhance the palate as white flowers dance on the back of it ,a little to much acidity. Open late winter!!

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Deep purple color. Red and blue fruits, floral undertones. Big and dense with black and red currants. Fine tannins and medium acid. Had with wedge, filet and au gratin. Very enjoyable, prob needs a few more years to mature. — 2 months ago

Lower East Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

A bit one dimensional and simple. Aroma, weight, and finish are all there... nothing off-putting... but nothing amazing. Quarantine filets, rich mashed, and wedge...WA Cabernet—- not bad for a Tuesday! — 6 months ago
