Les Pezerolles Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Lyle Fass
9.4

An epic epic Pezerolles. Unreal nose. Superbly floral and just so gorgeous. Red cherry, black cherry, floral again, hint of licorice. So stunningly fragrant. Just bright and lifted. Palate is just oozing with gorgeous pure fruit. Red fruit driven with a black fruit edge to it. Sappy and so complete. What a long finish. Stoney aromas after some air. Palate has melty tannins that are so fine. Seems a bit closed initially but the super long finish makes me think this has more to say. 9.3 for now. I’ll be back.

This opened up after air end a day and became much more integrated. It’s a big wine in need of age but a smokeshow. 9.3 to 9.4 but with age will be 9.6

Cuvee William Pommard Pinot Noir 2018

Killer nose. Becoming one of my favorite village Pommards. Beautiful haunting cherry. Lipstick like intensity. So much stone and minerals. So Pommard. Floral as well. So vibrant and lifted. Palate is deep, energetic and loaded with such pure fruit. Terrific clarity and lift with a small hit of opulence and then finishes so stoney. Beautiful balance and freshness. Wow, did William nail this vintage. Awesome fruit and length. Amazing stuff. Big step up over 17, which was terrific. Almost a cherry/raspberry pastille like aroma after air. The delicious factor on this is off the charts. But it also has terrific grace. What minerality and energy. The finish is just incredible. It begins when you think it ends. Firm tannins but ripe suggest this needs 3-4 years but it is all there. — a month ago

Clos de la Cure Pommard Pinot Noir 2018

Nose is tight out of the gates. Some cherry cola, dustiness. Pulverized rock dust. Really quiet at the moment but I have faith. 18’s are built like brick houses. More aromas coming but all mineral. Fruit is buried here. Palate is super closed. Wow. This will need mega air. Like mega air. Huge grippy tannins and terrific fruit on the long finish. Easily a 1er Cru length finish. But this needs mega air. My score will rise. As this air the fruit expands on the palate. Massive power, depth and concentration. Exceptional length. Nose picks up a hint of licorice. 9.2 to 9.3 after 20 minutes. — 13 days ago

La Vache Pommard Pinot Noir 2018

From vines planted in 1902. Yowza. One of my new favorite bottlings. Incredible spice and minerality. Deep and penetrating aromas. Feral and animal as well but such a clean sauvage. A stoney sauvage. Some deep cherry fruit but this cuvee always needs a few hours to get going. Wow. Deep, dark black cherry fruit and awesome texture and freshness. Black cherry fruit that is teeming with energy and slathered with super stoney minerals. Exquisite balance and so so mineral. Amazing stoniness which is what Pommard is about. Really dense but also transparent and elegant. Huge ripe and chewy tannins that exude stoniness and black cherry fruit with a red cherry top note. Explosive and long finish. This is an ager and priced right below 1er Cru Rugiens. As serious as a Pommard being made today. Beautiful inner mouth aromas and awesome power, depth and concentration while retaining incredible balance. Big, substantial stoney tannins on the finish pump out black cherry fruit. Finish is minutes long. As this airs it gets sweet and more mouthfilling. Will def be back in a few hours! Sick wine. — a month ago

Cool look forward to 18 offerings. Which if his 17 is most approachable now? Cuvée William?

Les Brouillards Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Lyle Fass
9.4

Superb tiny berry fruit intensity on a slab of stones. Superb mineral perfume. Beautiful mashed dark and light red flowers. Stunningly elegant and precise. Dizzying. I love Volnay. Palate is structured and so deep and initially a bit closed. Complex, stoney, sappy and superbly concentrated. Fruit is there but has a major mineral grip on it like so many 18 1er Crus at this early stage. Clean, compact and precise but really in need of 5 years. Now while 17 was wide open young this will not be. But what a wine. Amazing palate presence. Incredible fruit. — 13 days ago

Les Chouacheux Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Love this vineyard. First time from Rebourgeon. Sick nose. Pastille like cherries with gorgeous minerality. Awesome spice and wafting clean minerality. Incredible nose. Haunting and lifted. Palate is super juicy and elegant and filled to the brim with minerals. Terrific fruit intensity. Bright red cherries, some plum, and awesome chewy but melty tannins. Terrific concentration and power with a super energetic mid palate that leads into a very long finish slathered in minerals. Awesome finesse and Inner mouth aromas. An inner mouth confectionary aroma as well. So killer. This has superb structure and will last 10–15 years and needs 3-5 but can be drunk young. Really persistent. — 22 days ago
