Caillerets Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2014

in the glass, a very satisfying brown red with clarity and weight, a nose both floral and earthy, and a lovely perfumed first flush, strewn with challenging acid. with food and a bit of time there is a striking transparency of flavor, almost jarring, a wine of remarkable parallels and perpendiculars, and we found ourselves steering in two wash down good food or to pause and make space for contemplation. it is a pleasure, but an intellectual one, not a hedonistic one, which is a conflictingly alluring turn-off: a buzzkill that leaves you smitten. wtf, ultimately it left us wanting more, but also grateful to have reached the end, and left alert, senses intact, sharpened even, joyous, stumped, satisfied, bereft. — 4 months ago

Now, I’m no fan of Sauvignon Blanc.., so, I was surprised by the balance here with a well honed and long palate leaning more towards honey dew melon and lemon posset rather that over bearing grass and lime. Wax over cork suggestive of some ageing aspiration which I could buy into as well. Would consider buying more. — 3 months ago
