Completely alive!
Quite deep still , medium garnet core , medium narrow garnet rim . Rounded smoked plum , undergrowth , touch floral . Plump and round in the mouth , mix of red and dark fruits , quite elegant and medium bodied , pretty good length . Still a touch of noticeable but very fine tannins, though very much integrated into the wine. Elegant and well balanced acidity . Based on this magnum , the wine is fully mature but with a lot of life left. Not the most complex or large scale Petrus by any means , however it has great texture and elegance , harmonious powder fine tannins , just a joy drink now and over the next 10 years perhaps. This was opened and then decanted just before service , followed over 2 and a half hours and was still going strong at the end. Magnum had a level of bottom neck . Tasted blind. Reddish tawny color, translucent and looks young. Notes of soy sauce, tea, molasses and some roses. Chewy, still has some pucker. Sweet fruit persists. Guessed ~2000 Barolo. Nice showing. — 8 years ago

Decanted and really opened up in little more than half an hour. 54 years and still has vitality. There’s still some fruit but it is mixed with subtle acidity and soft tannins. A delight to drink and share with friends. Our friend was given the wine and wanted to share it. We all were quite happy.👍🍷🍷 — 5 years ago

One hour in the decanter. Lots of sediment. Cork removed by a Durand and still in good condition. Umami and tar while it gained volume and mouthfeel in the glass over the next hour. Savory and delicious. 🤤 — 2 years ago

Opened several hours prior to service and poured into a ship’s decanter. The 1967 “Riserva” pours a ruddy garnet color with a transparent core and a slightly orange-ish rim. Medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. Some slight signs of fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous but the fruit is still showing so well! A mix of ripe and desiccated red and dark fruits with forest floor, porcini, dried roses, tar, some tobacco, dried herbs, dusty earth and exotic spices. On the palate, the wine is dry; medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long a slightly savory. This is drinking so well right now and I reckon it’s on a plateau of pleasure. It almost seems evergreen considering its vigor. Drink now because you’ve already waited long enough! — 3 years ago

Nose has dried roses, tar, dried orange peel, dried Bing cherries, wet leather, moist leaves and shaved dark chocolate.

Palate has dehydrated tart cherry, dried orange zest, moist garden soil, sweet cherry notes, medium tannins and light acidity remains.

Evolving and expanding with each sip, complex flavors continue to reveal, not slowing down at all.

A truly exceptional bottle of wine. Made by Beppe Coppa, one of the greatest Lange winemakers. A powerful vintage according to my trusted source on old Italian wine. — 4 years ago

Great virtual tasting tonight with my great friends. This wine was just gorgeous with a nose of truffles, potpourri, pine needles, and dried roses. On the palate, dried fruit and roses followed later by sweeter fruits and hints of balsamic. Really lovely. I just wish we could have tasted this together in person! — 6 years ago
