Forster Ungeheuer GG Riesling 2021

This is one of Germanys most famous vineyards and Von Winning has made a very vibrant, concentrated and age worthy wine from it. Bursting with lime, rocks, smoke and yellow fruits. Great texture. — a month ago

Deidesheimer Kalkofen GG Riesling 2016

The 2016 “Kalkofen” pours a golden color with maybe a slight sign of some gas? Obviously unintended. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of tropical fruit, petrol, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+(?) acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. There is so much squishy fruit that it seemed to trick the palate initially but with air, this started to show more acid. The finish is long. Drink now and through 2031…possibly longer considering the amount of youthful fruit present. Danke Tim! — 4 months ago

Winnings Riesling 2021

2021. Saw that the wine tent at the beer festival had one of my favorite QPR Rieslings, so I had to mix in a taster! — 7 months ago

Sauvignon Blanc II Trocken 2022

Damn, the Germans have just laid down a great hand of cards in the Sauvignon Blanc game.
More tropical and spice notes than Loire or NZ, actually, strangely the nose is more similar (yet more elegant and restrained) to the finer North American SBs I've tried. Minerality is medium and hard to pick out a soil type. Acidity is on the lower side.
Flavours follow the nose with pineapple, pear, allspice, Rainier cherry.
I favored the bottle that was open for an hour+. The new bottle gave me a very 2022 sense (ie: a young tart)

9.9

Sick nose. Pulverized rock dust. Elegant. Juicy and brilliant. Gorgeous fruit. This is a 9.9 for me. So concentrated and pure. The minerality. Sweet herbals. Grippy! This is 9.95. God damn. This is insane. — 2 years ago

Neumagener Rosengartchen Von den Terrassen Riesling 2021

Nose: an elegant perfume of green apples.

Palate: perfect crunchy green apple juice. Powders minerals. Crystalline acids. Elegant density. Almost crunchy. There is a perfection about this. Stunningly well made. Wow.

Almost the platonic apogee of dry mosel Riesling.

Engerstein Pinot Noir 2020

9.5

Such a killer vintage for this. Nose is forest floor, raspberry, candied cherries, stunning levels of spice and wild flowers. So complete and wonderful effusive aromas. Really high toned nose and penetrates deep in the nostrils. The spice and florals get nuts after some air and it becomes enveloping. Palate is a bit behind the nose but it’s so juicy and clean with explosive mid season cherries and terrific tiny berry fruit intensity and a smack down of a finish that saturates the palate with just amazing and detailed cherry fruit. What a wine. So clear, vivid and balanced. Love the sweet cherry fruit, cut and energy of this. Just stunning. With air the mid palate fills in and wow is this just a stunner. Sick inner mouth aromas and such amazing clarity of fruit. Raspberry, cherry and even a hint of blueberry. So sweet and energetic. Long finish with minerals. — 5 months ago

Reichsrat Von Buhl

Forster Ungeheuer Riesling 2015

Medium + lemon yellow in colour. Aromas of yellow fruits (peach) with a honeyed note. Carries through to the medium + intensity palate with a certain texture from the oak maturation. As outlined in previous notes putting Riesling to oak doesn’t seem right although it is more integrated than previous tastings, but it is an old German thing - arguably the Godfathers of Riesling. Impossible not to like this. The GG quality coming through. Ready to drink. — 10 months ago
