Hickory Creek

Marotti Campi

Superiore Orgiolo Lacrima di Morro d'Alba 2015

Great Thanksgiving wine! Dried cherries, rose petal, gum Arabic, cedar-Saigon cinnamon-oak, elderberry, currant, nutmeg, blueberries. Black pepper on entry softens to black and red cherry with lavender and violet. A touch of cherrywood a smaller touch of applewood, a minute touch of hickory and a nano shaving of mesquite. Laden with inlay. Sour blackberry finish speckled with lingonberries and myrrh.

Badet Clément & Co.

Révélation Vin de Pays d'Oc Cabernet Merlot

Color of purple, quite dark and thick. Nose of dark fruits plus vanilla and milky chocolate, a bit hickory and minty, and raisin. Nose is pretty decent. Taste follows the nose with sweet note plus tart, good mellow tannins, more vanilla chocolate and dark fruity notes, and sprinkle of zest. Aftertaste shows some more warmth and oaky note. Clean and tasty overall. — 2 years ago

Lovely. Blueberries, blackberries, hickory, maple, bacon fat, hints of chocolate. Maintains a balanced acidity and fine granular tannins. I love it. Much better than many Napa Cabernets which cost 2x or 3x the price. #malbec #mendoza #argentina — 4 years ago

I love when Morel is on and boy is this on. Nose is wooly and hickory based. Sweet acacia as well. Lanolin and lemon flesh and gorgeous mineral. Palate rich, energetic and bracing. Compact and deep with crazy linearity and focus. Like a laser. So clean. This needs air as it is JJ Morel but out of the gates it’s wonderful. So juicy and engaging. Amazing sap. Now with air you get that wet earth thing that is so clear. — 2 years ago

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2002

Signature Margaux aroma. Leather bound book, musty cabernet pepper, purple flowers, hickory smoke, and spice. Some pyrazines. Very silky texture and great volume. Tree bark and cassis on the palate. Fruit emerging after an hour. — 3 years ago

San Antonio Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Color of dark purple, a bit cloudy. Nose is nice with cocoa, tobacco leaves, a bit hickory, savory spice, nice aldehyde, vanilla, and powerful alcohol. Taste of solid tannins, tobacco leaves, dark fruits like ripe grapes, tobacco leaves, slightly sweet, mineral, good content and flavors. Aftertaste is also quite long with addition of oak tone. Nice found. — 4 years ago

Château Trotanoy

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1971

I brought this. Dark reddish tawny, almost opaque. Notes of black cherries, earth, smoke and hickory wood, some red sweet fruit. In the mouth this is rich and palate-coating with lots going on. Silky. Really good showing. — 2 years ago

Vigna Cristiana Boca Nebbiolo Blend 2012

Haunting and ethereal aromas of roses, tar, leather and so much more. Classic old school pedal to the medal Neb. Smokey and hickory aromas as well. Stunning. Palate is mega juicy and mega structured with amazing purity and depth and just exquisite fruit and lovely length. This has many decades ahead of it and is really a value when compared to what $40 gets you in the Langhe. As this airs i’ll be back. — 2 years ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Wanted to put up a future all-time great against two all-time great HBs... the 45 and the 61. Opened and decanted this 9 hours before serving. Light tawny color, translucent and darker than the other HBs. Intense nose with notes of black cherry, black raspberry, hickory, gravel, moist soil, some mocha and some menthol. Huge and powerful in the mouth. Still tannic and young at age 31. Almost port-like. This is easily a 75 year wine, like the 45 sitting next to it - a wine that it can probably surpass as it gains more age, weight, advanced notes and complexity. (Bday 11 of 13) — 4 years ago
