Le Point du Jour Cheverny Pinot Noir Gamay 2018

A bit ripe upon opening. It softened and gained complexity on day 2. — 18 days ago

En Montchenevoy Marsannay Pinot Noir 2002

Really nice mature Marsannay with good color and nose of flowers and perfume underlined by earthy structure and autumn forest. A surprising sense of sweetness reflecting very ripe fruits mixed in with all that older Burg goodness on palate. Long finish. What a nice wine! — 11 days ago

Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2014

Saturday lunch at home with friends. All tasters very impressed with this Village Bourgogne from the 2014 vintage which was excellent for whites. Great intensity and tension for a village wine. Good minerality. No time for detailed notes. Went well with fresh Tasmanian oysters. — 20 days ago

"Les Chassignols" Moulin-à-Vent Gamay 2016

Serious cellar potential, and that is probably where this one belongs for awhile. Very primary, dense, juicy and structured. Crunchy wild berries, gravelly mineral character and slightly herbaceous. This bottling needs more time than even the grand reserve Juliénas because of its much shorter elevage and early release time. It will surely reward, but showing some mutedness now.

*Day 3* Already considerably more rewarding. The tannin structure is muscular but supple, and there is more mid palate density and clarity. Showing some dried fruit aromas at this stage, but not to the point of feeling tired. I’m more confident that this will drink well in 2021 or perhaps 2020.

La Maltroie Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Decent mid-weight white burgundy, but not all that exciting. Clean, crisp, nicely balanced but with absolutely no “wow”. You have to question the price/quality ratio with wines of this type. Kiss of death is almost no sense of “terroir” or place—- just another dry white! — 19 days ago
