Château Haut Litays

Haut-Medoc 2010

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a gorgeous one from France.

Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim.

Gorgeous nose of blackberries, black plums, black cherries, cedar, earth, vanilla, licorice, spices, black pepper, dark coffee, light alcohol, pencil lead, river rocks, light vegetables and leather.

Full bodied, soft and elegant, with medium acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, sweet cherries, cedar, leather, earth, vegetables, vanilla, pencil lead, earth, chocolates, dark coffee, spices and peppercorn.

Long finish with firm tannins and spices.

This 9 year old Cabernet based Bordeaux is drinking very nicely now. Well balanced with nice complexity and a great mouthfeel.

This is from a great vintage, and it is showing. Good right out of the bottle, and better as it opens up. Tannins come in after 30 minutes of airtime.

Still has a lot in it, and will age nicely in the next 10 years.

Thank you Steve and Alex for sharing this beauty with me.

Delicious and yummy.

I paired it with cheeses and light appetizers, but it is great to drink all by itself too.

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

Rich, dark berries and strong tannins and long finish. — 4 hours ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1999

First Growth Friday with the home grown Padres. Slow to emerge but was keep ascending as the evening progressed. Warm blackberry, graphite, sweet cedar and cocoa. Shows pedigree for sure but lacks the heft and penetration of better vintages. — 8 days ago

Dark fruit, still lots of tannins 15 years along. Does feel like a merlot and cab blend. Endlessly interesting.

My last 375mL of 2010 and this was the best yet. Plums, cassis, pipe tobacco, damp hollowed out log, leather and olive tapenade. Pretty awesome for a Cru Bourgeois. — 20 days ago

Nice Bordeaux, which I just like, tasty, not oaky, but a pleasent red wine from the old part of winemaking, good Q/P , no revolution here🇫🇷🍷🤗 — 10 days ago

Very enjoyable Wednesday Wine Committee lunch today with @Weston Eidson & @Colby Siratt hosting. Same format as always...1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine all tasted blind.

This was plush and dense while also being very youthful and gripping. Dark fruit dominant. Black Forest cake, dark cocoa dusted dates, roasted plum and a touch of saddle leather. I called this left bank 2012 vintage.

Loads of cinnamon/baking spice, and this is firing on all cylinders. Really well balanced, and totally digging it. Not typically into Bordeaux, but not usually drinking Bordeaux like this. — 24 days ago
