Tried this a few years ago and was unimpressed. I guess I was a little young. Elegant. Fruit, wood, acid — anonymous in that it tastes more like “wine” than those individual flavors, but tastes like … wine should. I can’t believe it, but Suckling was right. 91. — 20 days ago
Raisins, spices, nuts, chocolate — lovely. Sweet but not too sweet, could be a dessert wine or a lovely pairing to something rich and savoury. 92. — 3 months ago
Savoury and non-decscript. Good for price. 87. — 10 days ago
Lot 74. Very simple, but appealing — clay dusty and lots of smooth fruit. Great deal on closeout. 89. — 25 days ago
Dried black cherry, cassis, stones. Good! 91. — 3 months ago
Good, but you can get a much better Barbera than this for $15 — not a great value. 89. — 11 days ago
As the wine guy said — dried fig and dusty tannins. Good stuff, good value. 90.
EDIT: Zounds, James Suckling was right on this one — or at least his ”associate editor” was! — a month ago
NOSE: wood ash, cherry, earthworm, moldy books. Ehhh.
TASTE: actually pretty good. Blackberry, cherry, wood ash tannin, balancing acidity. Not as good as I’d hoped, but got it on closeout. 89.
