Cantina dei Produttori Carema

Riserva Carema Nebbiolo 2016

From a lesser known “produttori” in Piemonte. Cantina Produttori Nebbiolo di Carema (what a mouthful) is a tiny cooperative in, you guessed it, Carema.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days. Fairly consistent throughout but I think I preferred the energy on Day 1. The 2016 Riserva pours a pale garnet with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity and no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of pomegranate, slightly bruised strawberry, toe jam (yeah, well…I’m not wrong), alpine herbs, roses some balsamico and rocky earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and saline with a silky texture. Until now, my only experience with the Carema DOC has been with Ferrando’s Etichetta Bianca and Etichetta Nera. While this bottle didn’t have the same drama as those wines from Ferrando, this was a very good example of Carema. Drink now and through 2031.

Antica Terra

Botanica Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

One of two bottles opened in honor of International Women’s Day a few nights back. This was terrific, although perhaps a touch Shedonistic for an Oregon Pinot. — 2 months ago

Antica (Antinori)

Townsend Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Not as bold and full body as other Atlas Peak wines which is probably more in line with the Italian wine making influence. — 6 days ago

Etichetta Bianca (White Label) Carema Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2019 Carema Etichetta Bianca is laced with sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, mint, dried flowers, crushed rocks and Alpine herbs. This is an especially floral, savory vintage for the Etichetta Bianca, a wine that impresses with its energy, verve and class. The only thing missing here is a bit of freshness and depth. Carema Nebbiolo 2016

My last bottle from ‘16. Almost at peak perfection but what do I know- other than one of my favorite Nebbiolos. Always a bit shy but the bottle age & air brings all those rose, hibiscus & cranberry notes to a fuller pitch. Such great aromatics too. — 3 months ago

Carema Nebbiolo 2020

Lyle Fass
9.5

Wow. Nose is so pungent. Spice and sour cherry. Earthy and so deep but also some gorgeous florals. Spectacular. Elegant and juicy but also young and unformed. Needs air. But it’s all there. Huge acid and length. Very sapid. As this airs the tart cherry fruit stands out as does the concentration but all in all after 4 hours a very closed wine that needs maybe 8-10 years. Today it is softer and suppler and has major mid season sapid cherry fruit. Wonderful — a month ago

Tettineive Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2019

Birthday dinner wine. Clay pot, dried cranberry, a little balsamic. Jared cooked ribeye, sautéed mushrooms, risotto and salad. Great pairing! Knocked it out of the park! — a month ago

Angelicall Pinot Noir Rosé 2017

Love this Rose. Like the Andremily Rose, it’s in a different category. — 2 months ago
