Wow. Fourteen year-old Chianti that retains the liveliness of youth. Tart plum and sour cherry fruit, but a more sophisticated nose of leather and earth, with subtle floral notes in the background. Sufficient acid and tannic backbone to be an excellent food wine but balanced and quite enjoyable on its own. Enjoyed the 2006 vintage with a heaping plate of freshly baked ciabatta, Taleggio, Gorgonzola, cherries and dates. I am so glad there is a second bottle of this in my wine fridge. — 6 years ago
This wine needs time. Leave it alone. Compared to the Liaison not that closed. Classic E&M. Takes ca. 1h to open up. Out of wack. Needs a year or so. Black Forest herbs. Cranberries sour blackberries. High acid. Limes. Light. Needs to settle down. Very edgy right now. Hard to read. — 7 years ago
Yesterday’s Wednesday Wine Committee, hosted by @Jeff Meyer , was so educational with fantastic German & Austrian wines. 1 sparkler, 5 whites, 5 reds, 1 dessert wine. All served blind as usual.
This was more mineral driven than the first red in every way. Not necessarily savory, but very herbal. Almost grassy. Sour and underripe cherry, bitter dark cocoa, medium acidity, and surprisingly tannic on the finish with too many herbs to differentiate against! Complex. I called this Spätburgunder. — 7 years ago

Powerful, tobacco-laced, cherry-saturated nose. After an hour, all kinds of secondary aromatics. Delicate but powerful sour cherry and sweet cedar notes. Nice, persistent acidity. 30 second finish and good for another 10+ years. Perfect wine to celebrate my wife's successful IPO! — 9 years ago
Fantastic sour — 9 years ago
Interesting profile: dried cherries, granny smith, cedar box, with a hint of a big red wine (AUS Shiraz, etc.). Not a lot of carbonation, would have liked to have opened a bottle a year ago to see what role aging has played (bottled 1/16/15). — 9 years ago
I always love this varietal at Broc for a kind of sour watermelon vibe, but to now have that balanced with the bit of age this bottle had - *chef’s kiss* — 5 years ago
Oak Barriques in evidence with vanillin notes also showing plums and tobacco with a dark chocolate note. Quiet dense on the palate with dried cherry, red licorice, and an overall sweetness. A little different to my note of September 2018 where I talk about sweet and sour although that is still there to a degree. A bit weird this one - too famous for what it delivers. In the 2013 Wine Spectator Top 100 this was Wine #1 I will leave last bottle to at least 2024 on its 20th Birthday. — 5 years ago

This is earthy but light, does have sour cherry taste. I thought it was really delicious. Got from The Wine House. — 7 years ago
Beautiful smoked sour cherry flavor backdropped by rose water and some subtler gamier tones. Dusty tannic grip and a vibrant acidic drive. Charming and lovely on a nippy Nashville December evening. — 9 years ago
Honeyed vanilla, caramel and spice nose. Very smooth and mild heat. — 9 years ago

Lovely stuff. Great fruit. Settled with a bit of plum and faint tobacco and a tangy sour cherry. Still vibrant and rich. Pure and delicious — 9 months ago
