Just concluded the annual Fall seclusion at our cabin in the Rangeley lakes region of Maine, mobile service up there is mostly non-existent, after several days I am posting again. Notes are somewhat brief, as my focus is relaxing and watching the Common Loons swimming and diving in the cove in front of our camp.

Nose has smashed cherries, orange peel, clove, cigar box and (minor) dried strawberry.
Palate has tart cherry, ripe cherry, cherry/strawberry Fruit Roll-up®, amazing acidity with a medium finish and tannins; What a great/fun wine!

Nose has roses, mashed cherry, clove (very cool!), cedar shavings and it's all just exploding out of the Gabriel Glas tonight.

Palate has tart cherry, ripe cherry, dried lemon peel with a medium finish. Fruit dominating your mouth, slight tannins, great acidity...looking forward to checking this one again in a few months.

And I thought the 2016 version was good, this is better. Yet I'm still hesitant to even drink 2017 wines, feeling they're too youthful. Delivers the standard E&M funk we come to know and love, not like any other Pinot. Love it.

Showing so well. Awesome nose. So aromatic. Spice, cardamom, clove, sour cherry, incense, awesome. Palate is ripe, juicy but also has great acidity and freshness. Very pure. Awesome texture and lithe tannins. Finish is not super long but it’s so precise and snappy. Just the best Pinot Value In the world.

Classic e and M nose, spice, resin, pine, clove, early season cherry, sour cherry, complex, very high acid, huge acid, beautiful purity, good length. Crunchy and very mineral. Almost stoney with cherry interspersed. Right now showing intensely mineral, but also has the sappy red fruits this bottling is know for. Elegant tannin. Wonderful.

Coming together!!!!!!!!!!!!!_best Pinot in world right now - if you look for complexity and not blah for ~ 20$. Read my previous reviews and others about this wine. Just months ago this was almost undrinkable. WAIT- Give it 6 more month it will last! E&M are miracle wine makers.

Well? This wine is closed and hard to judge. It needs another 6-12 months may be more - and this for a 20$ Pinot. Very tart Cranberries hint of sour Raspberries. Earth, dirt, chalk and bark. Clove! - High acidity. Folks it really makes no sense to pop this - after 3 hours the wine is mostly unchanged in a Burgundy glass. Even the next day open to air this is coiled up. I suspect this could turn into a brilliant beauty - for now don’t touch it.

A lil bit funky, cherry and warp-speed dirt. Really good, would love more than a glass to figure it out.

Tough vintage - might have been the worst in 10 years. Yet at 6 years this came around nice. I heard a lot of folks had concerns. Earth, bark, orange 🍊 rind, crushed marble, black currants, lime juice and a hint of cherry. So even this very basic version did quite well after 6 years. 12.5%.

Tough vintage. At least for this basic version. Age did not elevate this Pinot. E&M are just so great that i will forgive and ignore this outlier.

E&M are just different. And the only wine which never made it was the 2013 Rose. That said 2017 was a difficult year for them and the wines of the lower priced wines such as this entry level one - were essentially undrinkable when young. Now the wine has mellowed out. Chassis, marble dust, herbs, resin and super bright acidity. There is lots of fruit mostly cranberry, sour orange, lime. Oregano? This needs a decant and spicy food which can stand up to the acidity.
