Plum, blackberry, rich but refined with very full grain and ripe tannin that meshes well with the full, but not overblown Toro style of wine. I had this from a 3L a few days before and it was much more open and naturally in a better place being open and decanted naturally as this was near the end of the 3L.
Top 3 producer for me in the region.
American, French and Hungarian oak, 70-30 or 60-40 French to American, Hungarian <1%. 200k bottles of production.

A classic Bordeaux styled wine meets a Spanish legendary producer. Intense at first in the nose with muddled cherry and blackberry in liquor, this wine is in control with perfectly integrated oak and fine silky tannin. I expect much more of a beast in the glass but this is beautiful and classy. #VegaSicilia #Unico #1994 This is officially my favorite bottle of wine that I've ever tasted. Black Cherry, Tangy Blackberry, Cassis, Clove, herbaceous, Big Acidity, endlessly layered. It almost changed with each sip over the course of 2 hours. Became spicier as it opened up in the decanter. This wine has a long life ahead of it still... Similar to the Vega Sicilia process where barrel/bottle aging is 2 years of each, with 70/30 French/American oak. Some of the vineyard sources are at Vega Sicilia, with the rest scattered through the local region. For example 25 hectares are in Padilla, 40 in Pesquera.
The nose and palate show red opulent fruits, licorice, subtle French oak apparent with a spicy seasoning of wood and an underpinning of minerality and freshness from the cooler 2012 vintage.
250-280k bottles typically produced annually.

95% Tinto Fino (#tempranillo) 3% Cabernet Sauvignon 2% Merlot and in the past sometimes 1% Malbec when it was worth adding (currently does not exist as it was recently uprooted). Typically 180k bottles of production.
Red garnet core with an edge of ruby.
Elegant red fruits, earth, mushroom and a beam of clean and well integrated oak.
Palate is juicy, fresh with excellent acidity and ripe and fine, but firm medium-full grain tannins.

Shockingly easy to enjoy now, this is quite a different experience than I was expecting. Though somewhat divergent from its typically firmer structure, it was great because we had it with a meal and could enjoy it immediately. The color has a deep purple-red core, with vibrant ruby edges. The nose was youthful with a medium+ intensity , showing dark red and black fruits, mocha and coffee bean. The flavors came in waves on the palate, layering with elegance and consistency to a long, fruit, oak and subtle spice finish.
