Last night's wine.
Like someone burned the cookies. It was thick and chewy on my tongue like spiced Mexican champurrado with a little pepper burn on the back of my throat. Unripe cherries and lemongrass (yellow green) and something resembling licorice but not.

Needs decanting or time in the glass to fully express itself. At first pour it was all about black olives and chewiness and then over time the ripe black plums and cherries appeared and things mellowed out in a good way. #bordeaux #claret #stestephe #leftbank #leftbankbordeaux — 4 years ago
A gift from a friend, decided to open this one tonight. An Argentinian "Claret", this is a Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon blend (40/30/30). This Mendoza red blend comes from an area first planted back in 1895 and has grown so much in scope that over 150 families of workers tend the massive vineyard acreage. The vine of choice for this region is Malbec - a frost sensitive vine that produces a thin skinned fruit that yields an inky purple, high tannin juice, often used in blending. ~$24 | #mendoza #claret #southamerica
On the eyes: Deep, dull, opaque, purple-red, med+ stain, med+ tears, no gas/floc.
On the nose: Black cherry, cocoa nibs, cola, mushroom, and hints of licorice and spice. Med+ alcohol.
On the tongue: Med+ tannin, med acid, med+ alcohol, full body. Black currents, cherries, and mulberries, rounded with earthiness and oak. This one could stand another year in the bottle. — 9 years ago
I found this bottle stashed away in one of my chillers. I had thought I had finished off the last of this a while ago. This wine is still drinking great even at 15 years. A testament to this producer! So a happy night enjoying this wine. I have reviewed before so I will not bore you again. #clifflede #napavalley #stagsleapdistrict #claret #redblend — 7 years ago
Tucked at the base of Napa's Stag's Leap range, White Rock Vineyards feels suspended in time. The land is rugged with white volcanic soil, the winery niches filled with bottles for cave-aging, and the wines #oldworld in approach and style. With dark, juicy fruit balanced by #savory spices and a strong mineral core, this #Claret effortlessly straddles seriousness and gulpability. — 10 years ago

Ramey’s interpretation of #claret is quite interesting. After 9 years of bottle time it’s aged more than expected. Stewed plum, quite faint dark fruit on the nose. Prominent acidity on palate, primary fruit exited stage left, some sherry notes but still noticeable tannins. 68% #cabernetsauvignon, 18% #merlot, 6% #syrah, 4% #malbec, 4% #petitverdot — 9 months ago
