Vespolina

Società Agricola NOAH

Rossonoah Costa della Sesia Rosso 2024

Made from 50% Nebbiolo, 40% Croatina, and 10% Vespolina. Light bodied with high acidity. This is a tasty red blend from Alto Piemonte. Cherry and strawberry flavors come through initially on the palate, followed by orange zest, slight hints of cinnamon and bay leaf, and a strong mineral backbone. Tasty, persistent finish. The fruit flavors are exuberant and really dominate initially. Over time the other flavors come out a bit more. This is the 2024 vintage. — 4 days ago

Cantine del Castello Conti

Boca Nebbiolo Blend 1993

Wow, a beautifully aging wine, nose clearly showed age with some tobacco, dried fruits, and a hint of a lizard’s cherry! Wine still has vibrant tannins and dark fruit elegance persists for a nice balance while it developed in the glass. 1993 vintage opened and drank on 25Feb2026!!! Enjoy — 2 months ago

Distinctly Piedmontese but unique. Great acid, soft tannins and approachable. — 8 months ago

Le Piane

Boca Nebbiolo Blend 2010

Light, strawberry notes on a surprisingly balanced (full) wine. Many notes like straw, citrus shavings and a touch of raspberry jam, without sweetness. Would definitely drink again. — 9 months ago

Proprieta Sperino

Uvaggio Coste della Sesia Rosso Nebbiolo Blend 2016

vintage 2016 | 80% nebbiolo, 15% vespolina, 5% croatina. Ten years old and fully alive and kicking. Brownish colour, tertiairy tones in smell. Very good balance, integrated tannines. I loved the bouquet: stinky in the positive way, spices, stewed fruit. A hint of manure. A Piëmonte nebbiolo that I like. Paired with a lasagne. — 11 days ago

Not sure the ID is correct…but this opens as a blackberry jam explosion, cools down, tannins slap you in the face, long finish…simply enjoyable — 8 months ago

Tenuta Monolo

Riserva Bramaterra Nebbiolo Blend 1990

This bottle of the 1990 Riserva was opened and Audouzed about two hours prior to service and enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The wine pours a pale garnet color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe and desiccated red fruits, old cherry Blow Pop, truffle, dried red flowers, some leather and dusty earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and savory. This bottle was grumpy at the beginning but is needed a pile of air. Drink now through 2030. Thanks for the assist @Lyle Fass — 2 months ago

They all need massive air. But it’s worth it.

Villa Guelpa

Sizzano Nebbiolo Vespolina 2019

This has filled out nicely since my last bottle. Earthy, deeply cherryish nose. In the mouth, it’s dense but lithe macerated cherry, getting savory on the long finish. Full, but with nice acids. Damn this was an amazing value. I’m sorry that this is my last one. — 7 months ago

Vigneti Valle Roncati

Roano Sizzano Nebbiolo Blend 2015

9.5

Haven’t had this wine in a while, and my god, what a return. Nose is sick. Comforting aromas of chestnut, spice, tar, leather, roses and more. So deep, accurate, and detailed, with loads of sweet spices. 9.6 nose. Gorgeous. The palate comes in with huge concentration and sap, big tannins that will smooth out with air. Dark cherry fruit and a whole inner world of florals and spices. The finish just imprints itself on your palate, juicy, suave, but in need of air. It’s all there.

With air, the nose picks up caramel, tree bark, and forest floor. Really elegant and pure. The tannins still need age and oxygen to calm down, but after much air, it’s lovely. Nose turns harmonious and full, tree bark, oolong tea, tar, roses, dark macerated cherries. Velvety palate, luscious fruit. So fresh and nimble.
