Proprieta Sperino

Uvaggio Coste della Sesia Rosso Nebbiolo Blend 2019

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course two hours. The 2019 “Uvaggio”pours, a bright garnet color with a transparent core, moving to a rose colored rim. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Morello cherry, strawberry, raspberry, pink roses, talcum powder, a smell that reminds me of the produce section in a grocery store of a developing country (yeah, it’s specific but, fight me), dried green herbs, and stony earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long, juicy and a touch spicy with a bit of black pepper that I find quite intriguing. A delicious pairing with lamb/beef kofta. All in all, another brilliant vintage of “Uvaggio” and further proof that the work of Luca DeMarchi at Proprieta Sperino is worthy of serious attention. Drink now through 2034. — 23 days ago

Le Piane

Boca Nebbiolo Blend 2017

Amazing and unusual Piedmontese wine. At first was exposing tobacco and paper, then with small sips left in the glass with cranberries, and the fuller glass after breathing with deeper flowers and berry notes — 5 months ago

Vigna Cavenago Riserva Ghemme Nebbiolo Vespolina 2015

Lyle Fass
9.6

Such an amazing wine. Nose is soaring with almost hallucinogenic levels of spice and tobacco. Such a wide spectrum. So good. Dried roses. Some cherry peeking through. Sweet spices coming through as well. Juicy and tannic but man oh man is this concentrated, fierce and burly but all in proper balance. What a finish. Huge tannins but air will mellow. I’ll be back.

Wow after a day open this is completely harmonious like an orb on the palate and has that super elegance that is rare in Ghemme. 9.5 to 9.6.

Sizzano Nebbiolo Vespolina 2018

Lighter neb, cherries and violets, really enjoyable. Reminds me of some of the wines in the old days when they called it spanna. I really like the more northern Nebbiolo wines better than the regions further south — 2 months ago

al forte Coste della sesia Rosso 2018

What a great example of the region the way the additions of Croatina and Vespolina complement the Nebbiolo all grown on the acidic volcanic soil of the region. Red berry flowers mint. Very alpine feel. Plus built to drink early. — 6 months ago

Boca Nebbiolo Vespolina 2016

Nose: sweet roses and cherries. Intense and beautiful. So floral

Palate: sweet cherries. A bit right but so lovely and balanced. Juicy. Still young. Has a decade to go at least.

Needs an hour. Then magnificent. The 20% vespolina just takes this over the top.

Almost a 9.6. A perfect boca.

Great example of what a Spanna from Alto Piemonte can be. Volcanic soil, traditional process and a great family. Red berries orange peel mint plenty of acid and low alcohol lightens the package. The bottle went empty quickly. — 5 months ago
