Château de Saint-Cosme

Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2015

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of dinner which lasted a couple do hours. The 2015 pours a deep ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of powerful ripe red and dark fruit: black brambles, dark cherries, black pepper, boozy Christmas fruitcake, licorice, garrigue, leather and rocky earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with sneaky medium+ tanning that build with air. The acid is there too although I wouldn’t call it the main character. It does, however, play a strong supporting roll. Definitely a wine of texture. It has been a handful of years since my last bottle of the 2015 and it’s evolving very nicely! Secondary flavors are starting to show and everything remains balanced. Extended air did get it to freshen up a bit so I’d say this still has a long life ahead. Drink now with a healthy decant and through 2035. — 5 days ago

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2020

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90min. The 2020 pours a deep ruby/purple color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of powerful ripe dark and blue fruits: Marionberries, figs, purple flowers, bacon fat, black olives, rocky minerals and soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Young, but this is another lovely vintage of Chave Saint-Joseph. Give it time. Best after 2030 and drink through 2040+. — 15 days ago

Domaine Charvin

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2016

Ripe red cherry. Grilled game. Black peppercorn. Tannins strong yet softened. Acidity medium minus. 15% alcohol fairly well hidden. Nice mouthfeel though a bit unbalanced. Medium finish. — a month ago

La Chapelle Hermitage Syrah

Exceptional wine - deep ruby color with a huge bouquet of violet, plum, black pepper, black cherry, licorice, vanilla, clove, prune and dried rose petal. Velvet tannins, the alcohol is well balanced with the fruit and full-bodied texture. Still in its infancy but already delicious, this wine has a stunning future — 3 days ago

Domaine de la Janasse

Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2019

Deep garnet color - strikingly so from the Garnacha blends that I was tasting from Priorat. Dark cherry and plum with coarse black pepper on the nose and in the glass. Tasted blind - but so clearly a gem from the southern Rhône. — 7 days ago

Domaine Jamet

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2012

Classic Jamet showing a concentrated, complex nose of red & black cherry, berry fruit, smoked meat, black olive, pepper, savory spice, mineral, menthol & violets. This is still on the youthful side that should keep developing for many more years. — 21 days ago

Domaine de Thalabert Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2015

Beautiful glass filling nose with flowers and tar followed by dark bramble, smoke, leather and liquorice. Pretty chewy tannines and a long finish. Wine got very divergent notes and ratings on ct but I am liking this a lot. No blockbuster over extracted powerhouse but freshness and complexity. Very glad to have 5 more. — 9 days ago
