Tasty but needs more bottle age. — 5 months ago
From a great looking bottle with a fill almost into the neck. Double decanted and left in the bottle for 5 hours before attacking it. Amber color. Good weight and haunting nose. Notes of old cedar, mocha, plums, cola, dark fruit, molasses and some sweet red cherry. Early on it’s all about the amazing nose. But with time the wine gains weight and you have a gorgeous old St Estephe in front of you. Still giving its all, and although the fruit is somewhat faded, this has complexity and structure that still drives the experience. And that nose is simply stunning. Great showing. — 2 years ago
Beautiful nose. Savory notes of salt, soy sauce, oregano, tomato bisque, earth and forest floor, mushroom, dusty, all the amazing things to expect from Saint Estephe. Medium acid still lingering, tobacco, hints of graphite , cedar, and classic cassis. Beautifully balanced and structured 13% — 2 months ago
“What Bordeaux should taste like.” Tashie. Great QPR estephe with a bit of bottle on it. Every sip you notice a different flavor but definitely has graphite, plums, herbs d Provence, and nice integrated tannins. — 7 months ago
Smooth, dense and homogeneous mouth. Black fruits blackcurrant, blackberries, prunes, roasted mocha, vanilla, tobacco, undergrowth notes.

2001 Lafon-Rochet
Saint Estephe
Inky black with cassis, black currant and blackberry. Black pepper and lavender with a whiff of smoke and graphite. Plum and vine charcoal give a softness to the tannin which is amazingly strong. Graphite shimmers through dark cocoa, cedar and pepper. Lovely and lively.

We clearly had better bottles on the 2 cases we polished over the years. But was still great claret. Those who think St Estephe is rustic need to try Montrose 1970. All about finesse and elegance. Thank you NY ! — 9 months ago
Really a pretty nice second wine from a great Bordeaux house (Montrose). In general I prefer St Julien to St Estephe but this is very good. Decanted 2 hours which I recommend. Inky in the glass. Some good secondary notes on the nose. Fruit is very there, but more acid to keep it balanced than I expected. Nice with a prime ribeye on the grill. — 2 years ago
