St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend

Owned by Château Calon Ségur. A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot & 4% Petit Verdot and aged in 60% new oak. Fresh red fruit aromas, with aromatic herb spice. On the palate black cherries and plums, cacao, rustic herbs and earthy tones. Fine gripping tannins, nice balance ending with earthy mineral tones and fruit finish.

Bold, tannic, astringent, sharpie and dark red fruits. Very grippy tannins and dry. Also notes of bell peppers and spices.

Popped and poured; consumed over four+ hours and seemed to build up over time. On the nose, scorched earth, cassis, pencil shavings, spiced meat. On the palate, cassis, earth. Ample structure with good acid, firm tannins. Long-ish finish. Ridiculous value.

Vertical Tasting comparing 2015 and 2016 vintages of Château Capbern. Very approachable 2015 from St Estèphe with great minerality, acid, and smooth tannins. Notes of dark cherry, plum, earth, pencil shavings/lead, and cocoa.

Subtle fresh black cherry, cedar, nutmeg?, black pepper. Nice acidity and tannic structure. Will age well, I think.

Pop and pour. Stewed plum, eucalyptus, tar, wet forest leave, and anise. Deep, rich and powerful on the palate. Dark berry fruits, chalky yet Integrated tannins, cedar box undertones. Decant for 1+ hour. Pair with fatty meats. Lots of life and room for improvement with clearing.

Smooth soft finish dry. Floral blueberries. My favorite blend. Love!

Great QPR, but right now the ‘15 not as good as the ‘14 IMO.

Black pepper, dark red fruit, tobacco, leather. Nice tannins on the finish.
